A Helpful New Resource
If you have read our blog for very long, you know that books are a very important thing to us. We love books, and both of us are readers.
As a preacher, books are an essential part of my work. My personal library is slowly growing, and I’m thankful for the books I have. However, there is always another book on another subject that would be helpful. Money is finite, though, as is the effort of listing what is wanted and needed.
So, about 7 months ago, I started a project that has come to fruition. I sent emails to about 40 preachers, writers, and professors asking for help. Thankfully, 19 responded and helped with the project. They were asked to list what they thought were the 20 best books of all time by members of the Lord’s Church, and to give a comment on each book.
Those lists were then calculated, and a final list of 105 books was compiled into booklet form. As of last week, the booklet is available, thanks to the generosity of Dr. Sam Hester. He agreed to publish this little 24-page booklet free of charge (plus shipping)!
The booklet lists 105 books that young preachers (or church libraries) should seek to add to their works. All are written by members of the Lord’s Church, and they cover a huge variety of topics. I am deeply thankful for the men who agreed to help with this project, and we all hope it will encourage preachers (and others) as they seek good volumes to add to their library. We decided to list the books in “countdown” form, starting with 105 and ending with what our contributors felt was #1. It makes this booklet a great resource to have!
The men who helped with the book were:
Mike Baker (Tyler, Texas)
Todd Clippard (Hamilton, Alabama)
Lance Cordle (Calvert City, Kentucky)
Jim Faughn (Paducah, Kentucky)
Sam E. Hester (Henderson, Tennessee)
Drew Kizer (Leeds, Alabama)
Jay Lockhart (Benton, Kentucky)
Gary Knuckles (Briensburg, Kentucky)
PatrickĀ Morrison (Jasper, Alabama)
Neal Pollard (Denver, Colorado)
Travis L. Quertermous (Dexter, Missouri)
David Shearer (Marshalltown, Iowa)
Billy R. Smith (Henderson, Tennessee)
It was my honor to compile and edit this book, and I’m glad the booklet, entitled Show Me Where to Start, is available from Hester Publications. Find their contact information here.

The new site looks great, Adam. Your hard work paid off!
Any chance you can turn the booklet into a .pdf e-book? It’d be something you could easily distribute electronically. Good work, bro. Keep it up.

I have thought about the e-book idea. I haven’t mentioned it to Dr. Hester yet, but it might happen in the near future if he “okay’s” it. If/when it happens, we’ll add it to our blog as a page.

Adam I am so glad to hear of this booklet! In early 2009 I asked a few fellow preachers what books they thought they used the most in sermon preparation. From this list I started purchasing extra books here and there that have greatly helped. This booklet will be the cake and the icing too, for me, in my search to increase and better my personal library!
