A Note of Thanksgiving

Having just celebrated my 75th birthday–and, no, I don’t mind telling people how old I am–I am overwhelmed by all of the blessings God has given me in this life.

First on my list would be my relationship with Him and a mother who raised me to always put Him first. Even in difficult circumstances, I saw her trust in God and her faith planted that seed in me that helped my own faith grow. I am so thankful. It is difficult for me to understand how anyone can make it in this life without being able to lean on God and His Word for support.

Second would be the man who chose me to be his wife almost 54 years ago. He is still the love of my life and, although we have faced some difficult times in life, our faith in God and the commitment we made to one another has kept us happily together. God blessed us with two children who have grown into faithful children of His. They and their families are all faithful Christians and work to expand the borders of His Kingdom. I am thankful.

Our five grandchildren have enriched our lives so much. They are so much fun to be around and show us in lots of ways that they love us. We love watching them grow in the faith and seek to please God. What a blessing! I am eternally grateful.

I am so thankful for God’s family overall. We have been blessed to live among and work beside people at three wonderful congregations in our years together. We have met many more people in our travels for gospel meetings, youth rallies, church camps, lectureships, Polishing the Pulpit, Ladies’ Days, marriage seminars, and other gatherings of God’s people. We have literally met hundreds and hundreds of people and enjoyed touching base with them on occasion. I am thankful our lives touched.

There are many more things for which I am thankful, but my post would be too long if I kept going. Suffice it to say that with each card I got, each message, hug, and greeting I received for my birthday, I was reminded how very blessed I am in this life.

To borrow the Apostle Paul’s words: “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you…” (Philippians 1:3).
