A Special Service

Tomorrow night, the Lebanon Road church of Christ will have a special Thanksgiving service. Many congregations do similar things, since so many are out-of-town and since there are so many visitors. That “flux” makes it difficult to continue a curriculum in Bible classes. Also, since our minds (hopefully) are on thankfulness, it serves as a good time to have a very focused service.

I was honored that our elders asked me to coordinate the evening. Brother Harry Middleton provided me with some outlines of services from year’s past, and I was excited that several men had been involved. With that in mind, I outlined a service, and 23 men will be involved in our service tomorrow night.

It may seem like the service will last a long time, but these men (especially the speakers) have been working on their part, while keeping things in a time limit. I’m truly excited about the service. Our theme is “We’re Thankful to God for God,” and we will note six things about God for which we are thankful.

Each section will have a Scripture reading, a five-minute lesson, an appropriate song, and a prayer of thanks. Here is the outline:

I. We’re Thankful for God’s Perception (Wisdom: Daniel 2:19-23)
II. We’re Thankful for God’s Power (Creation: Psalm 19:1-6)
III. We’re Thankful for God’s Providence (Romans 8:26-30)
IV. We’re Thankful for God’s Protection (Matthew 10:26-33)
V. We’re Thankful for God’s Providing of Basic Needs (First Timothy 6:3-10)
VI. We’re Thankful for God’s Provision of Salvation (First John 5:5-12)

If you are visiting Nashville, stop by at 7:00 for this very special service of thanks. It will be uplifting and faith-building.
