A Thing about Things
Last night, I included this in my sermon, and a few folks said they liked it, so I thought I’d share it with you. It’s just a short paragraph I wrote about how we define ourselves by the things we have in this life. Enjoy!
We like our things. Our shiny things, our glittering things, our flickering things, our quiet things, our gimmicky things. We drive things with nice things on the wheels and great things to play music for our drive. We have things on our walls and things on our floors and things in our attics and things on our doors. We put things in the garage and things in the basement and things in another building. When we run out of places to put our things we rent a building to put more things in, so we can go buy more things. We use plastic things to buy metal things so we can feel like we have the latest things, only to learn there are newer things—nicer things—and now we aren’t the thing we thought we were, all because we don’t have the right things.
As you let that sink in, remember the words of Jesus: “One’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12:15).

Great thoughts, and part of the reason I’m selling my Android Tablet (not to advertise that here, though).
