Latest Book Reviews
Since the last book review, I’ve finished four books. Here is a short note about each of the four. —————— Marriage: From Surviving to Thriving Charles R. Swindoll W Publishing, 2006 Three of the books in this post are about marriage and family. I am counseling a young couple before their wedding, so I tried to read several volumes (and skim through some other material) to prepare. Swindoll’s book is more for those who have been married for some time. Leah and I have agreed to go through it together after we finish one other book. I recommended to this young couple that they read through it together after one…

Friday Links Roundup: Congrats, Grads Edition
Nearly every congregation of which I am aware takes some time to celebrate graduating high school seniors. For many of these young people, they will move off to college and will rarely have the opportunity to worship at their “home” congregation anymore. We hope that doesn’t happen with our graduates! Sunday night, we will be celebrating with our six graduates. Interestingly, all six are ladies! We are proud of them, and will honor them with a video tribute, as well as a meal and gifts. Please pray for all our college students, but especially those who are just beginning this transitional period of life. May they always remain faithful to…

Friday Links Roundup: Podcast Feedback Edition
Each week, I look forward to a lot of things associated with preaching. Of course, I look forward to time spent studying God’s Word and drawing lessons from it that, hopefully, will help people draw closer to Him and to each other. I look forward to opportunities to visit with folks and offer some encouragement. I enjoy writing sermons; seeing where something “fits” as it helps make a sermon flow. I also, however, look forward to some of the “extras” it’s a privilege to be a part of. Writing articles is a blast, as is writing for this blog. These “extras” are always in the back-burner compared to other things,…

The Handout
After blogging Tuesday about the list of books I was putting together, I thought it would only be appropriate to show the final list. I did a “flyer” for it, and, while it’s nothing fancy, it lists the book titles, authors, and a place where it can be found–new–in good condition. The reason there is no price by You’re Singing My Song is because the couple is getting a copy. If you are interested in purchasing that book, click here. [NOTE: If you can’t read the Lebanon Road Reports on Mondays, you won’t be able to read this, either. Send an email, and I’d be glad to send you the…

Books for Premarital Counseling
I am conducting a premarital counseling session soon, and I’m really trying to help this couple as best I can. One “extra” I want to give them is a list of books that will help them before they marry and in their first year of marriage. Yesterday, I put out a question on Twitter, asking my friends for recommendations. Some replied on there, while others sent emails. The list is amazing! I had several books already listed, but I liked some suggestions they gave as well. Obviously, I’m not going to list 100 books for this new couple to try to buy, but I hope to give them about 20.…

Friday Links Roundup: Sunday Gauntlet Edition
I love Sundays. As we end the Friday Links Roundup each week, I always try to remind you that it’s the Lord’s Day and to put Him first. Many Sundays are filled with activities and wear me out by the end, but that’s okay. As I say, “It’s a good kind of tired.” This will be one of those Sundays! If you are near Nashville, join Lebanon Road for any or all of the following: 9AM: Worship10:20AM: Bible study11AM: Potluck (yes, we’ll feed you this week!!!)–after that, I have a Bible study with a young lady who has been visiting with us.–we also have a young lady graduating Sunday afternoon4PM:…

"Are You…?"
I had a wonderful experience yesterday morning. I thought it was time to get the brake pads replaced on one of our vehicles. Thankfully, I was wrong, so it cost nothing! While that was good, it wasn’t the best part of the morning. My appointment was at 7:30 and I had a coupon for free pads to the first customer, so I got to the garage at 7:00 and waited. I was the first one there, but another man walked in almost the same time I did. We sat down in the little room and waited. I had my bag of books and (of course) my phone loaded up with…
