Friday NO Links Roundup
That’s right, I’m not doing any links this week. Oh, I’ve read some good posts, but I’ve had quite a week, as those who follow me on Twitter (http://twitter.com/faughnfamily) or Facebook know. As I type this, it’s almost 3 PM and I’ve been at a local hospital sitting with a family. Jeremy Lamb, who has been visiting with us recently with his fiancee, Heather Shea, had triple bypass surgery today. He’s just 26 years old. The surgery took almost six hours, but he’s out and doing as well as can be expected. In a little while, I’m eating supper with my family, then headed to the softball fields for Lebanon…

Besides Books…
One of the constant features of this blog is a regular book review. If you’re fairly new to our blog, you might not know that I try to read at least 40 books each year. (So far in 2009, I’ve finished 16.) However, books are not all I read. Of course, I also read books to my children (which would be waaaay more than 40 each year!), but there are other materials I read. Following are four groups of things I read on a regular basis. 1. Blogs and Websites. On the right side of our blog is a list of the blogs that are in my feedreader (I use…

"Minor" Details?
I’ll admit it: there are sections of the Bible that I think are hard to understand. And, yes, there are times when I read something and wonder, “Why would God include that?” Studying for my Sunday night sermon this morning, I came across a detail I had read countless times with really no particular feeling. I was sure it was there for a reason, but I had only heard one seemingly unimportant reason ever given. It’s found in Joshua 3 (yes, Lebanon Road folks, that’s the text for Sunday night). As God’s people prepare to cross the Jordan River, we are told in a parenthetical statement, “Now the Jordan River…

Option 2
Below is a template for the Lebanon Road Report that I’m thinking of doing each week. (A huge “thank you” to Neal Richey for inspiring me to go through with this.) Let me know if you like the usual post, or the updated newsletter. This only takes a couple of extra minutes, but I thought it might add some “design” to the updates. Additionally, this update is 8.5×11, so you can print it on one sheet of paper if you want. Leave comments and let me know which you enjoy more. Lebanon Road Report: April 12
Wow! What a wonderful weekend we enjoyed in Nashville! My weekend got off to an early start, as I finished reading my Bible in my morning readings on Friday. I read the English Standard Version and now am beginning The Message. At night, I read the ESV in my daily Bible reading schedule from Lebanon Road. Each time I finish reading through God’s Word it is a joy. (By the way, that makes 15 completed books in 2009 thus far.) Friday, we sat through storms, but we were fine. While winds got a bit rough, we only had rain at our house. Others were not so lucky. In nearby Murfreesboro,…

Friday Links Roundup: Big Weekend Edition
We have a wonderful weekend ahead of us, and we’re excited about all the plans. As many of our readers know, Lads to Leaders is underway in Nashville, Atlanta, Orlando, Memphis, and Indianapolis. I went to Opry Mills yesterday to look for Leah’s birthday present and just kept running in to people I know. It was great! I’m looking forward to seeing more tonight. We’ll be at the Opryland Hotel tonight for the Delta Fountain singing, which I’ll be honored to lead. If you’re near Nashville, come to the singing. It’s really good (despite the leader!), and very uplifting. That starts at 10:30 tonight. Before that, though, my family has…

One Cool Thing and One Reminder
The Cool Thing Just a little while ago, we crossed 50,000 hits on our blog since adding a counter. We have seen a fairly large increase in hits over the past few months. We are always thankful for anyone reading the blog, and “milestones” like this one give us a chance to thank each person who comes to the blog. Please continue to check in and please pass along our blog to others. The ReminderI am looking forward to leading singing tomorrow (Friday) night at the Opryland Hotel for the annual Lads to Leaders National Convention. Around 4000 people attend the singing each year. Three young men from Lebanon Road…

For the Family
I made a phone call this morning that has been discussed in the Faughn household for a long time. It’s one that others will find stupid or pointless, but one we did for our family. What was the call? We cancelled our television service. We didn’t lower our DirecTV package, or switch to local cable. It’s gone. After a long conversation last night (which followed many others), we decided that we were addicted to television, and it was time to end the addiction. I want to share why we did it, and what we hope to do with our time. Why We Ended It 1. Our Spiritual Lives. Please know…

Two Great Reads
First, a quick book review. I have finished reading Leadership Gold by John Maxwell. Like all material I read or hear from Maxwell, this book was extremely encouraging. One unique quality of Leadership Gold is the brevity of each chapter. There are 26 chapters and a conclusion crammed into the 254 pages, with each chapter ending with questions and an additional thought. As far as “reading pages,” each page is about 3-5 pages, and can be read in just a few moments. If you like books you can constantly pick up and set down, this is a perfect read. This book is designed to give leaders the “nuggets” needed to…

Lebanon Road Report: April 5
What an uplifting day! While it was a day crammed full of activity, every moment was completely encouraging and uplifting. As we often say, Lebanon Road is a wonderful place because it is a congregation of wonderful people. 343 attended our morning worship services. Yes, that’s down just a bit, but we’re still moving back up in average over the past couple of weeks. That “trend” makes me excited as I think about the possibilities on Easter Sunday (425?). We hope to reach a lot of folks and encourage them to attend again. I continued through Titus and presented a lesson on 2:9-10, where Paul wrote instructions to slaves. Thankfully,…
