More than Demons: Part 2 (Bulletin Article for December 16)
[Note: Two weeks ago (December 2), we ran an article that was “to be continued next week.” Then I skipped a week. I apologize for the mix-up. Please go back and read the article from December 2 before proceeding with this article.]What can help us have greater faith than the demons? Action. Many of our religious friends tell us that we cannot be saved by “works,” but that our faith alone is what saves. We cannot disagree with the fact that we must have faith in order to be saved. The Hebrews writer reminds us, “…without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must…

A Layout Change
We try to help this blog be as informative as possible, but we also try to make it useful for you. While we don’t always succeed at both, we try! For quite some time, at the very bottom of this page, there has been a list of blogs that have, at one time or another, linked to us. We thought it was a good way to give a little “thank you” for the link. However, after thinking about it, not many people even knew the list was there, since it was “buried” at the bottom of the page. So, the list has been moved to the right-hand side, at the…

A Book Mention!
Justin Guin mentioned my book on Nehemiah (Building a Hero)over at his blog. Here is the article. I am proud to know that someone read and enjoyed the book. It was a joy to write! For more information about the book, or to order it, click here.

Evolution: Now Faster than Expected?
As I have said before on this site, it is amazing to me how often the theory of evolution changes, but, somehow, is still “held to” by so many. Whenever scientists find a problem with their theory, they just change it, and, for some reason, people (especially the mainstream media) continue to think the theory is fool-proof and always correct. Another example of that has recently been released. Scientists were struggling with how humans developed “culture” so quickly. How did we get to where we are, in this information age, from just having small tools and other “crude” things just a few centuries ago? That’s a good question. The problem…

Funny Christmas Stuff
My sister-in-law, Heather Everson, sent me this video. My sister, Amber Tatum, hates the 12 Days of Christmas, so this video should get a laugh out of her!

Fired for Believing in Creation?
While this case is still winding its way through the courts, it is still worth your time to read a little about it. A biologist in the Boston area claims he was fired for believing in the Genesis account of creation. He is suing his former employer over the issue. Click here to read the article from Yahoo! News. A couple of questions worth asking about this case: 1. Will we see it covered on the national news if this man wins? (or if he loses?) 2. Will the ACLU come to his aid, claiming that his “civil rights” were violated? Just wondering.

New Blog Added to Roll
We are proud to add Christian Cornucopia to our blog roll. My good friend Michael Jackson, who works at Heritage Christian University in Florence, Alabama, runs this new blog. The site has just a handful of posts so far, but they have proved to be good. Michael uses the blog (so far) to lead the reader to other articles of interest. Click here to enjoy this new blog.

Friday Links Roundup: Change of Plans Edition
The 9th Avenue youth rally is just 28 days away. When you plan for something for so long, it gets hard to believe when it is just one month away. I hope you are planning on coming. I was informed this week that our adult class teacher, Glenn Colley, is not going to be able to attend. He serves as an elder for the West Huntsville church of Christ, and the eldership is taking a trip to a mission point. However, it is wonderful to know so many Christians who are willing to help. With just a few days to go until the rally, brother Dale Jenkins has agreed to…

Teaching is Serious (Bulletin Article for December 9)
At 9th Avenue we are blessed in many ways. One of our blessings is the tremendous number of members who volunteer to teach in our Bible school program. We have enough teachers that we are able to give extended breaks to them, so they can learn more of the Bible. Our students benefit from having several teachers. The students learn that several people care for them, and their spiritual development. They get to learn from teachers who have different perspectives and life experiences. All of these things add up to a solid foundation. Teaching the Bible, though, is not something to be taken lightly. While many have a talent to…

Book Review: "Rejoice with Me"
First released in 1987, Rejoice with Me has a new, updated and expanded version released earlier in 2007. Brother Wayne Jackson’s 202-page book is a classroom-level commentary on the book of Philippians. In fact, the subtitle is simply Paul’s Letter to the Philippians. I have studied the book of Philippians several times and have even preached an extended series from some of my graduate work on the book. As with any other book of the Bible, though, I learned even more from reading more about it. If you are familiar with brother Jackson’s writings (especially his books), you know that he is a first-rate student of the original Greek language.…
