Back to Work

There are very few places “open for business” on Christmas. Quite a few even close (or at least close earlier than normal) on Christmas Eve.

It makes me glad to know that most places of business give their employees a break on this holiday (and others). While some have to work (doctors, nurses, soldiers, etc.), it is good for families and friends to get together.

Then “The Day After” comes. It’s back to work for nearly everyone who was “off” on Christmas day. After a holiday–or an extended vacation–it can be difficult to get back to normal. There are emails that need a response, forms that need to be filled out, undone things from before the break that need to be completed, and on and on it goes. Sometimes that first day back can be one of the most difficult because we have gotten out of the “swing of things.”

Sadly, for many, their Christian lives are that way! They come to the Lord and obey Him, but then decide to take a break. They go back out into the world and stop doing the things necessary to living a life of faithfulness. They fail to pray, read the Bible and serve others.

When we speak to them about their souls, usually the answer is something along these lines, “I know I should come back.” They know, but they don’t do.

Why? Because time is one of the devil’s greatest weapons. He is able to draw us back out into the world and get us in a routine. Maybe the routine is not filled with sinful activities, but it is filled nevertheless. Our busy schedules keep us from being faithful to God.

If you find yourself drifting away, get back to work! Do something for someone today. Read some of your Bible today. Pray today.

Christianity is one thing from which there is no day off. We are to live for Him daily.
