Blessings of Freedom in Christ

Tomorrow our country will celebrate the 4th of July – Independence Day. There will be parades, picnics, fireworks, family gatherings, and any number of other events. It happens every year on this same date, and if you were to ask many people what exactly are you celebrating, they would have difficulty coming up with an answer. They might say, “We’re celebrating independence.” Independence from what? They have forgotten the American History they had to study in High School.

So tomorrow, whether you remember why we celebrate this day, have fun with family, picnic and play games, shoot off some fireworks…

But also remember the true freedom a child of God can have in this life. So…

  • Thank Him that you can be set free from sin in this world.
  • Enjoy the time you can have with those of like precious faith.
  • Take the day off to relax from the things of this world, and spend some time in study of God’s Word.
  • Remember that the sufferings of Christ are what allows you freedom through Him.
  • Share your joy of a life of freedom in Christ with those around you.

While I, as an American citizen, am very grateful for the freedom I enjoy in this country, the freedom we can have in Christ is worth more than anything we can possess.

Happy Independence Day. Don’t forget Who gave you the greatest freedom you could ever have.

Jesus said: “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,

and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)
