Book Review: "A Conspicuous Love" by Steve Zeisler
One of these days, Lord willing, I’m finally going to finish my book on Nehemiah. When I do, I wish to write a book for teenagers about two of the greatest women ever to walk the earth: Esther and Ruth. A Conspicuous Love by Steve Zeisler is a short commentary on the book of Ruth.
Subtitled “The Enduring Story of Ruth, Romance & Redemption,” this little volume has been an absolute joy to read. While I do not agree with everything in the book (there is a touch of denominational bias, and some stances from the story I don’t agree with), most of the book is very helpful.
You will greatly enjoy the great way in which Mr. Zeisler brings out modern lessons from this wonderful book. He also does a great job of constantly looking forward to Jesus, Who, of course, is in the bloodline of Ruth and Boaz.
If you work with young people, Ruth is a book that needs to be studied. So many young people do not know the meaning of “true love” anymore. They do not know how to see God at work in their “love life.” The book of Ruth can help us understand that.
One more thing you will enjoy from this book is its focus on Naomi, who is often the forgotten person in this book. In fact, Mr. Zeisler will have you thinking by the end of this book, that maybe (just maybe) the book is just as much about Naomi as it is Ruth!
You can order this book from Christian Book Distributors for only $1.99 plus shipping by clicking here. To say that it is a bargain is a monumental understatement. This 173 page book may not take up a lot of space on your shelf, but you won’t be putting it on your shelf for a while! Read it with an open Bible (due to some of the teachings), but enjoy this modern study of a greatly overlooked book.
