Book Review: "Divine Design"
John MacArthur’s book was written as a response to the growing influence of the feminist movement in both society and religion. The book is well-researched and presents MacArthur’s thoughts INS clear way.
Logically, the book presents its arguments very well. Even though we do not hear much about feminism much today, the movement continues, and its influence is unmistakable.
To combat the main idea behind feminism, MacArthur simply tries to present God’s plan for men and women in society and the church. He is a huge proponent of a woman’s major sphere of influnce being at home. I feel as though he not only bears that out with Scripture, he does so with candor and love. He does not teach that a woman must be a 24-hour-a-day stay-at-home mom, but she must have her strongest influnce there.
MacArthur also presents the organization of a local congregation, and the roles God gives to women there. He holds to the idea of a pastor and of women deacons, but he is adimant that a women may not teach in public over a man, and he is very clear as to why.
Though originally published in 1994, Divine Design is still relevant. Pick up a copy.
