Book Review: "Fascinating Stories of Forgotten Lives" by Charles Swindoll
Several weeks ago, I published a review of the “Great Lives from God’s Word” series by Charles Swindoll. (You may read that review by clicking here.) At that time, I stated that I did not know if the series would continue. Within two weeks, the 8th volume was released (that’s about my luck).
This latest volume in the series is entitled Fascinating Stories of Forgotten Lives. It goes away from the usual presentation in the previous seven volumes. The other volumes are a walk through the life of one individual. By the end of the book you almost feel as though you know this man or woman.
This newest volume, however, is a collection of 14 different Bible individuals who may have stood behind the scenes a bit. There are also a couple of individuals (Abraham and Saul) who are more “famous,” but Swindoll only presents one characteristic of that person’s life.
The book is very much worth owning, especially if you have bought some books from the series already. It will, though, leave you wanting more. You will not get the feeling that you are walking alongside these characters as you did in the other books. The lessons, as always, are very helpful, though.
There is some denominational–grace only–teaching in the book, but it stands out like a sore thumb, making it easy to recognize and refuse.
Overall, the book is a great addition to a library. You may purchase it by clicking here.
