Book Review: "Letters to Young Preachers" by Gary Hampton

This book is like very few others. It is designed for a class study over the books of First and Second Timothy and Titus. But, unlike most other class books, it does not contain 13 chapters; it contains 17. Also, the style of the book is very different.

On the inside cover, the book contains this subtitle: “A Class Commentary on 1,2 Timothy and Titus.” The description of a “class commentary” is very appropriate. The book does not follow the usual outline of a class book. Most books contain some interesting opening story to each chapter, then some observations from the text, then some practical applications. Brother Hampton’s book, however, simply gives some observations in a commentary style.

For a class teacher, the things found in this book might not be enough to use to teach, but the book would be a great aid to class members. They can use this book beside an open Bible and follow the text, getting explanations as they need them.

The book follows the books written by Paul to two young evangelists–Timothy and Titus–in the order in which they are found in the Bible. This makes the book even simpler to follow.

To order the book, call Hester Publications at 731-989-5872 or email brother Sam Hester at shester@fhu.edu. No Bible class, whether it is of future preachers or older saints should ever miss an opportunity to study these three wonderful books, and brother Gary Hampton has made that study a little easier for us all.
