Book Review: "Waves of Change" (originally published September 13)
Kyle Butt, who works at Apologetics Press in Montgomery, Alabama; and his brother Stan Butt, Jr., who preaches for the Chapel Hill church of Christ in Chapel Hill, Tennessee; have written a very good book for teenagers entitled Waves of Change. I recently finished reading this book and I highly recommend it for use with teenagers.
To be frank, I am very critical when it comes to teenage Bible school material. Many books are filled with “fluff” and they “gloss over” issues that are of extreme importance. This book is not like that. If you have read Out with Doubt or A alphabolin Matter of Fact (both written by Kyle alone), then you know what type of material you will be getting in Waves of Change.
The book deals with some of the “change” issues common among churches of Christ in our day. It deals with those trying to change the Lord’s Supper. It deals with handclapping and raising “holy hands.” It deals with baptism. In each chapter, young people are directed to THE source of truth: God’s Book.
In my opinion, the greatest chapter is the final one. Chapter 13 deals with the second coming of Christ and many false teachings pertaining to that great day. It leads young people through a study of “the rapture” and the book of Revelation. This chapter alone is worth the purchace of the book.
I wish to commend Kyle and Stan Jr. on a work well done. I recommend this book highly to anyone who works with young people.
