Book Review: "Yet Trouble Came"

This book, written by W.T. Hamilton in 1969, was lent to me a couple of weeks ago. One of our members knew I was wrapping up a study on Job and thought I might enjoy this volume.

Did I ever! In fact, I enjoyed it so much that, upon finishing it, I ordered a copy from Amazon.

Yet Trouble Came is a collection of devotional thoughts from brother Hamilton. Each chapter contains a page with the Scripture reading from Job, then a 3-4 page devotional lesson. Each is packed with outlines, illustrations, poetry and other helpful materials.

When I saw what this book was going to be like, I thought it might get quite repetitive. That was not the case. Each devotional is very helpful. In fact, I would highly recommend using one devotional each day for a brief period of time (especially when trouble does come your way).

Preachers, nearly every devotional contains a 3-5 point outline of “helps” that could easily be used for sermon material. Additionally, Hamilton often refers to famous poets to illustrate the devotionals. Since this is a skill I do not have, I appreciate these helpful tidbits.

Overall, I highly recommend this brief book. Numbering just 112 pages, the book can easily be read in a day or two, or can be used for a personal devotional book or even for a class.
