Book Review: Getting Things Done
Getting Things Done is a book unlike any other I have ever read. It is just what it sounds like: a book about getting organized and doing things in an efficient way. I am nowhere near as busy as some other people I know, and I still oftentimes find myself trying to “get ahead.” After reading David Allen’s book, hopefully, that won’t be the case for a long time to come. I will not follow every suggestion in the book, simply because I’m not sure how it all would help with my line of work. However, just the motivation that the book provides makes it a must-read. I have already…

Friday Links Roundup: 500 on Facebook Edition
I am truly enjoying Facebook. I have “caught up” with some friends from college and even from high school. I have made new acquaintances through a couple of groups I’m in on that site. This week, I crossed over 500 friends on Facebook. If you are on Facebook, make sure you add me as a friend! Here are some links for this week: 1. The internet is truly an amazing thing. As I write this, I am listening to lectures begin preached in Virginia. How exciting is that? One site, though, it planning a lectureship that is truly ’round-the-world. The lectures will be held at 10 different locations over 5…

Lectureship Online
The Cold Harbor Road church of Christ in Mechanicsville, Virginia, has an annual lectureship that continues to grow. The speakers are always first-rate. I have four of their previous lectureship books, and have enjoyed reading them all. This year, the lectures have added a new feature. If you can’t make it to Virginia for the weekend, you can listen to the lectures on the congregation’s website LIVE! The lectures begin tonight at 7:00 Eastern (6 Central) and continue through Sunday night. Please click here to view the schedule, listen to the lectures and/or order a book. AND, even if you don’t hear anything else, you will want to listen Friday…

Hurry! (Bulletin Article for November 4)
Our time is described as “the fast track.” The news is made up of “sound bites.” We have faster internet service, instant coffee and fast food. Everything seems to be rushed today. Was our life meant to be so hurried all the time? God doesn’t count us as more valuable (or more spiritual) just because we can do some things more quickly than someone else. In fact, there are many things that take a great deal of time and commitment to achieve. One of those things is developing a good character. It takes a long time to develop because (1) we will fail often in our work, and (2) there…

Happy Halloween
I’ll admit it: Halloween isn’t exactly my favorite holiday. You have to admit, though, the music is awesome! Nothing like hearing The Monster Mash. Also nothing like a little Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, and his biggest hit ever: Is that disturbing or what? Young people, don’t ever let your parents tell you that artists were “normal” in their day!

Looking for Bible Class Material?
Finding quality Bible class material is a chore. While plenty of material exists, finding quality material is difficult. As you know, one of my hobbies is writing (otherwise, I wouldn’t have this blog!). While it is a skill I continue to attempt to improve, writing is a great outlet. That “outlet” has led to two books. Both have been out quite a while now, but I wanted to take a moment to remind you of each. The first book I wrote is entitled Building a Hero: A Study of Nehemiah for Young People. Thirteen lessons fill the book, written with Junior High/Senior High students in mind. Since there are 13…

A Shot at…
“Respects his virginity, but felt he is also too innocent.” That’s the reason that Eddie was eliminated from the new “hit” reality game show A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. Parents, if you don’t know about this show, it’s time you learned. A Shot at Love was originally taped to be on VH1, but, when the producers saw what they had, they moved it to the main station, MTV. The first show aired on October 9, and was the 3rd-highest ranking debut in MTV history. The show “features” Tila Tequila, an internet superstar who makes a living being famous. On the original episode there were 16 straight men and…

…And From This Weekend
How about another video? Every once in a while, we like to put something fun on here. Folks, THIS is fun! Also… The Yankees couldn’t beat the Red Sox, but they could upstage them! First, A-Rod is leaving (maybe) and, now, a new manager. Welcome, Joe Girardi.
