Two Items for the Weekend
I had two totally unrelated items to share, so, in the tradition of “blogging,” I’m making them one post! 1. First, allow me to promote an upcoming event at the 9th Avenue church of Christ. We are hosting our 2nd Annual Youth Lectureship on Thursday, July 13. This is more than a youth rally, it is a full day of deep Bible study. Teachers are told to delve deeply and students will learn much throughout the day. We will begin at 9 AM with a short period of singing, and then the classes will begin. There are nine classes from which to choose and there are six class periods (meaning…

Missing the Real Issue, But a Step in the Right Direction
Many have been turned off to the internet because of the amount of filth that is so readily available. It seems that every conceivable vice has a niche on the ‘net. However, many industry insiders are starting to crack down on certain of these sinful behaviors. Most recently, several companies (including AOL, Yahoo and Google) announced that they are working with the US government to cut down on the availability of child pornography on the internet. Google even went so far as to say that it has a “zero-tolerance policy” in this area. To read the BBC release of this story, click here. So, why the title of this post?…

Lessons from Newborns (Bulletin Article for July 2)
Several times, those who are new to the family of God are compared with physical newborns. We are blessed to have several who have recently put on Christ in baptism and who are now beginning to mature in the faith. There are several things that those of us who have been Christians for several years need to remember. First, not every baby grows at the same rate. Just as precious infants will grow at different speeds, so will the new child in Christ. Some are already quite mature when they decide to be immersed and others need a lot of growth. Some will quickly begin to show great strides in…

Another Loaded Study
Scientists continue trying to prove that a person is born hetero- or homo-sexual. They continue to hold studies attempting to prove such. Truth be told, while they have many speculations and ideas, there has not been a single shred of evidence to prove their theory. The latest attempt is to show that the more elder brothers a male has, the more likely he is to be born homosexual. Something happens, even in the womb, to determine his sexual orientation, due to the environment around him with older brothers. Please take the time to read the following article about this study, taken from The London Times Online. It is somewhat lengthy,…

A Good Day for Bible Students
After much waiting, Christian Courier’s website is back up and running. It features a new look (the articles page looks somewhat like a blog!) and a different mast across the top. Above all, though, it will continue to put the truth in front of many people. Pray for this work and visit the site often. Click here to see the “new” Christian Courier.

Evolutionists Need another 25,000 Years
Beads that were made for just that–beads–have evolutionists scrambling again. What do they need this time? Just 25,000 years. Why do they need this “short” period of time? Because the beads, they have discovered, were obviously used for jewelry. That wouldn’t be a problem except that evolutionists thought that “creative ability” in humans developed about 75,000 years ago, and these beads “date” back to 100,000 years. Amazingly, instead of questioning the dating devices and their theories, what do the evolutionists do? They claim that the history of human development must be changed. The Australian online says, “the research means the history of human mental development must be rewritten” (emphasis added).…

"Putting Sports Ahead of Religion"
I love sports. Okay, I love most sports. I am huge college basketball and football fan. I love Major League Baseball. I even watch a smattering of NBA, tennis, golf and a few others. I played sports when I was younger. I was in baseball leagues for several years. I played basketball for about 5 years, and I even ran track for a couple of years. But I still remember that no sport came before God. I still remember scoring the winning run in a Little League game on a Wednesday night. Of course, I had to pinch-hit in the bottom of the last inning, because I was at Bible…

My Scary Space or My Safe Space?
The controversy over MySpace.com continues to grow and, now, the company is beginning to take steps to squelch the mountain of negative publicity it is getting. Recently, a 14-year-old Texas girl and her mother sued MySpace (and its parent company, NewsCorp) for up to $40million. Why? Because the girl interacted with a boy she thought was a younger man and agreed to meet him. The boy turned out to be 19 years old, and he sexually assaulted the girl. My first reaction when reading this story was that both the boy and the girl were in the wrong. The boy should not have lied about his age (and probably other…
