As If You Needed More Reasons…
The Da Vinci Code is set to open in theaters very, very soon. Officially, the film will open on May 19. The book has already sold millions of copies and has made Dan Brown famous and wealthy. The movie promises to only add to his fame and fortune. Christians are, thankfully, trying to keep people from seeing the movie. Although fiction, the movie will raise many questions. It will hurt the faith of some young people. No doubt, you have already read many articles on the falsehoods found in the book. These will carry over into the film. But, just in case you needed another reason not to see the…

Book Review: "Memoirs of a Martyr" by David Bragg
The letters written by Peter are two of the most power-packed books found in the pages of the Bible. First and Second Peter should be studied carefully and often by God’s faithful people. David Bragg, who lives in Southeast Missouri, has written a helpful tool to guide a student or a class through these two wonderful letters. Easy to read and understand, Memoirs of a Martyr will help anyone gain a greater understanding of these two books. While there are many controversies surrounding some technical issues in these two books (did Peter write both letters, is Second Peter 2 really inspired, etc.), brother Bragg will bring the student to what…

Amazing Discoveries?
Recently, you might recall, scientists were all excited about the discovery of a “missing link” between aquatic life and life on land. The discovery of an animal named Tiklaalit roseae supposedly was “proof” of the movement of life to land, and a direct line to man. The discovery was made in the Arctic regions of Canada, and even garnered Neil Shuban (who led the team) a recent “ABC Person of the Week” award. Thankfully, Apologetics Press writer Brad Harrub wrote an article this week on the discovery. Please take the time to read his research and comments. Brother Harrub is far more qualified to write about this discovery than I…

I'm Tired of Hearing…
As someone who makes a living using words, I try to be very careful in choosing the words I use. Admittedly, I can always do better, but we as a society need to start being reminded that words mean something. Nothing over the past few years has proven that more than the “acceptance” of the word “pimp.” While I understand that language changes (just read a King James Version of the Bible for proof of that), the word “pimp” still carries the connotation of sexual activity. Still, the word is being thrown around now as meaning “hip” or “cool.” In the last week that has come to my attention in…

A Must Read
Several of our past posts have dealt with the homosexual agenda. We have looked at Brokeback Mountain and other media outlets several times. However, “World” magazine has a recent article that deals with some of the political activism going on currently (or earlier this year) by homosexual groups. While the article focuses on a California Senate bill, you might be surprised where some of the other activities are taking place. You see such “liberal” places at Bloomington, Indiana! Please take about 5 minutes and read the article by clicking here. Christian Courier’s website also has a link to the article, so it should reach a great number of people. I…

"Think" about "The Beast"
Set to be released on June 6, 2006 (6/6/6), The Beast is a movie that young people might want to see. Parents, please do not allow your children to see this film. Originally titled “Danielle” (after the lead character), The Beast will undoubtedly cause many Christian young people to question their faith and cause many nonChristian young people to doubt Jesus totally. What is this film about? Below is a description from The Internet Movie Database: When her father, a biblical scholar, mysteriously disappears, a Christian high-school student named Danielle investigates. She discovers that he had stumbled across a cover-up of Christianity’s best-kept secret: That Jesus Christ never existed. Now…

Book Review: "A Conspicuous Love" by Steve Zeisler
One of these days, Lord willing, I’m finally going to finish my book on Nehemiah. When I do, I wish to write a book for teenagers about two of the greatest women ever to walk the earth: Esther and Ruth. A Conspicuous Love by Steve Zeisler is a short commentary on the book of Ruth. Subtitled “The Enduring Story of Ruth, Romance & Redemption,” this little volume has been an absolute joy to read. While I do not agree with everything in the book (there is a touch of denominational bias, and some stances from the story I don’t agree with), most of the book is very helpful. You will…

FOX: The Home of Anything Goes
When the FOX network made its debut, on October 9, 1986, it was hailed as a newer, more hip, network. Over the years, one could claim that the network has basically held on to that crown. But how it has held that crown, and how it intends to keep doing so; these are things that need to be discussed. Here is how the beginning of the network is described by Wikipedia: From the beginning, Fox established itself as a somewhat edgy, irreverent, youth-oriented network compared to its rivals. Its first primetime shows, which debuted on Sunday nights beginning April 5, 1987, were a comedy about a dysfunctional family (Married…with Children)…

A King and a Commoner (Bulletin Article for May 7)
Sunday night in our lesson, I read a piece by an author unknown to me. The writer compared a thriving church with a dead church. One of the items in his list stated, “A living church is filled with givers, while a dying church is filled with tippers.” David, the beloved king of Israel seemed to understand that, when we give to God, it needs to be a sacrifice. The king had taken a census of Israel, and God did not want this to be done. David had to choose the punishment that would be meted out, and His decision was to allow God to strike Israel with a plague.…

Telling Two Sides of a Story
Abilene Christian University recently hosted an interesting event. “Soulforce” came to their campus. Soulforce is having an “equality ride” bus tour. What is this? From their own website, this description is given: The Soulforce Equality Ride is a journey to change the heart and mind of America on the issue of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality. Following in the footsteps of the Freedom Rides of the 1960’s, the Equality Ride uses principles of non-violence to confront military and religious colleges and universities with policies banning enrollment of LGBT students. The Equality Riders reflect on the lessons of history, which have shown past religion-based discrimination against women, people of…
