Mary Carol and Santa
Mary Carol may never remember this picture, but Mommy and Daddy sure will. Mary Carol is now 8 weeks old, and already is comfortable in Santa’s lap. That doesn’t bode well for our checkbook!

Book Review: "Wisdom's Call" by Drew Kizer
“Wisdom’s Call” is a new book by Drew Kizer which leads teenagers through a study of the book of Proverbs. The book is divided into 13 chapters, making it perfect for classroom usage. I highly recommend the book. The book goes through the book of Proverbs, but it does so topically. Because Proverbs can seem to “jump around” in subjects from time-to-time, Drew does a great job calling the attention of young people to important topics throughout the book. He also shows a great knowledge of other biblical teaching on each topic. The book of Proverbs is just as important now as it was when penned by Solomon (and Agur…

A "Lost Sign" of Christianity
There are many outward signs of Christianity. “Therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:10). “…All men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). When people look at each of us, they should be able to see genuine love for brothers and sisters in Christ, and they should see us doing good works for as many people as we can. There is, however, another sign of Christianity that we might forget. In our society of ease and luxury, it can be quite easy for us to…

The First Thanksgiving
More than likely, you have seen the original proclamation that was issued in 1676, instituting the first thanksgiving holiday. If you have not, please read it carefully. Notice the overriding religious theme in it. May we have the same faith in God on this Thanksgiving holiday. June 20, 1676 “The Holy God having by a long and Continual Series of his Afflictive dispensations in and by the present Warr with the Heathen Natives of this land, written and brought to pass bitter things against his own Covenant people in this wilderness, yet so that we evidently discern that in the midst of his judgements he hath remembered mercy, having remembered…

All Former Posts Published
I know it has been confusing to keep up with all the posts over the past four days. We have now moved all the posts from our old blog to this one (there are 38 posts on this site already). We will try to “get back to normal” over the next few days.” Again, thank you for your patience. ~Adam, Leah and Mary Carol

Building a Suitable Preacher's Library/Book List Expanded (originally published on November 9 and14)
The Bible should be the basis for all studies, but every preacher is also on the look-out for books to build his library so he can more capably preach God’s Word and all the lessons taught therein. But, how to get all those books? Time is tight with so many duties pressing (visitation, preparation of sermons, writing, funerals, weddings, counseling, family time…etc. ad nauseum). Money is also tight, and the price of books is not getting any cheaper any time soon. Resources such as Christian Book Distributors, Amazon.com and eBay may help, but books–especially good commentaries and reference materials–still cost a lot of money. Please read the article whose link…

Know Your Enemy (originally published November 9)
No military unit goes into a fight without first doing some research. The group researches the lay of the land, the resources available to them and other important matters. They are also, however, researching the enemy. When one enters a fight, he must know his enemy very well if he expects to win. We are, everyday, engaged in a spiritual fight (cf. Ephesians 6:12). Satan is our enemy. As Peter put it, he is our “adversary” (First Peter 5:8). What can we learn from the Bible about our enemy? There are many things, but we will notice just three. First, he is the devil. The word “devil” means “accuser” or…

"House-to-House" Helps (originally published November 7)
The church of Christ in Jacksonville, Alabama, oversees the work of “House to House, Heart to Heart.” Many of you probably get this wonderful bi-monthly newsletter in your mail. It is sent free of charge and many congregations blankets portions or all of the town in which they work and worship. The articles are well-written and the variety keeps many people interested who would not be otherwise interested in the churches of Christ. There is doctrinal teaching in each issue, but there are also humorous articles and quotes, quizzes and short modern-day parables. The newsletter is printed on slick paper and the layout is hard to beat. Brother Allen Webster…

Catholics "Sort-of" Back Evolution (originally published November 4)
[NOTE: Before reading this short article, take the time to read the Yahoo! News article that brought it about.]Is it not obvious what is happening? The Catholic church is afraid to take sides in the creation/evolution issue, so it is conveniently taking both sides. It is truly sad that some who profess to be followers of Jesus Christ directly oppose what He taught. John 1:1 tells us that Jesus, identified by John as “the Word,” “was God.” He was–and is–divine by His very nature. That divinity necessarily implies eternality. John goes on to say that about Jesus, “He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him,…

Publications that Help You Study God's Word (originally published November 3)
There are (and in the past, have been) so many different publications that it can be hard to select some to use for personal Bible study. This article is not intended to give my opinion on them. I am asking for your opinion. Please respond to this article with some suggestions of: (1) Magazines, newspapers, periodicals, etc. to which you currently subscribe that help you in your study of God’s Word. Please take the time to review the reason(s) these help you. (2) Magazines, newspapers, periodicals, etc. that are commonly subscribed to by members of the Church which you do NOT find helpful. Please be honest as to why you…
