Friday Links Roundup: FHU Lectureship Posting Schedule Edition
As we mentioned on Wednesday, we are planning to attend the annual Freed-Hardeman University Bible lectures next week. This is always a treat, and we have been making plans all week for this event. Since we will be away most of the week, there is a change to our usual posting schedule. We will be putting things on the blog next week, but they will be from the lectures. We will try to post some pictures, audio clips, and notes throughout the week. However, we will not be making note of these additions on Twitter or Facebook. Our goal is to post 2-4 updates each day, Monday through Wednesday, and…

“Greater Things” Thursdays #5 – Sycamores Terrace Services
Lebanon Road’s 2011 theme is “Greater Things.” So, each Thursday, we are featuring an area of our congregation in which we want to strive to achieve that goal. ——————————- Many congregations have regularly-scheduled services at local nursing homes or assisted living homes. It is a wonderful way to encourage the residents of those facilities, and it also is good for the congregation’s reputation in the local community. Some have singing services, while others conduct a more “traditional” worship service. At Lebanon Road, we support two local homes in this way. This week, we want to focus on one of them, Sycamores Terrace. It is located about 3 miles away from…

Friday Links Roundup: Preview Edition
In just a few minutes (from when I’m typing this), Dale Jenkins and I will host iPreach. Each year about this time, we enjoy previewing the annual Bible lectureship at Freed-Hardeman University. We enjoy remembering the history of this great event, and we love looking forward to what is coming up for this year. Our guests for the podcast today are David Lipe (Director of the lectureship), Dan Jenkins (preacher at the the Palm Beach Lakes church of Christ) and, hopefully, Alan Highers (editor of Spiritual Sword magazine). If you can’t join live, you will be able to find this episode on iTunes later this afternoon, or you can listen…

“Greater Things” Thursdays #4 – Young Men’s Services
At Lebanon Road, our 2011 theme is “Greater Things.” To read more about it, click here. Each Thursday, we are trying to promote that theme with an area of work or service in which we can strive for, well, greater things! ———————— Those “fifth Sundays.” For some reason, months which contain five Sundays always seem to change Church calendars. Some have special contributions, while others have guest speakers. There are usually four such months in the year (every so often, there are 5). At Lebanon Road, we are always encouraged on 5th Sunday nights, as our worship services are led by our young men. They conduct the entire service, and…

Friday Links Roundup: Not Exactly “Cruising” Edition
It snowed. Again. I love snow, so this has been a wonderful winter. It has, though, been amazing, as it has been years since I have seen snow this often. Also, since we have lived in Alabama and Tennessee, we have gotten used to even “light” snows slowing things down and shutting down businesses and schools. And, boy, did I get a taste of that yesterday. I went to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital to visit a family friend. While there, the snow started to fall, but it was not sticking to the roads, as crews had nearly all the major roads ready for snow. I left the hospital at about 3:10.…

Friday Links Roundup: Podcast about a Podcast Edition
This morning, as usual, Dale Jenkins and I will record iPreach, which is now in its 3rd year, and which has over 125 episodes in its history. This podcast is now heard by around 300-400 people with each episode, and we are humbled by the response in such a short time. On today’s podcast, we are going to be “unveiling” a new podcast! Dale and I have been working behind the scenes on a new podcast that is not a “spin off.” iPreach, obviously, is mainly intended for preachers and other workers in ministry. Our new podcast is going to be designed for all Christians, and it is very exciting!…

Friday Links Roundup: 37 Days Edition
Yes, I am going to make fun of college football one more time before the season finally (and, mercifully) ends. By the time Auburn and Oregon take the field on Monday night, it will have been 37 days since either team played. In the meantime, we’ve seen about 487 bowl games (ok, so it will have been 34) featuring 68 of the 120 teams in FBS (or, as it is always called, “formerly Division I-A”). Auburn and Oregon will make 70 of the 120 teams that qualified and played in postseason games, a grand total of ONE of which actually matters (unless some voters want to vote TCU #1, which…

Friday Links Roundup: 2010 to 2011 Edition
As I type this, there are less than 20 hours remaining in 2010. Obviously, we may never see the end of this year. We are not promised tomorrow, but we rest in the promises of God that, if tomorrow comes (and a new year begins), He will continue to be faithful. As the old hymn suggests, “Morning by morning, new mercies I see.” In 2010, our family had a great year. There were struggles at times (remember the car wreck???), but God is so good to us. We are blessed far beyond what we deserve, both physically and with countless spiritual blessings. For those of you who read this from…

15 Things It’s Not Too Late to Do in 2010
Time is finite. We are only given so much time in a day, and only our Lord knows how many days we have on this earth. We often hear stories, read books, or watch movies about what people say they would do if they “knew” they only had a certain amount of time left to live on this earth. Sometimes, those stories make us think of the same scenario. I want to think of something different today. While I know we are not promised any more days, it is not sinful to consider our future, so long as we do so within the realm of the Lord’s will for our…
