Everybody Needs a Break

Have you ever had that feeling that if one more thing was added to your day you would just explode? I imagine most of us have had this happen to us. Life happens and sometimes it just seems like it piles up too high to breathe.

Can you tell I’ve had that feeling lately? Now, I know that part of it is my fault because I can be a procrastinator at times, but really it just seems like one thing piles upon another until I feel like I’m drowning.

So, what do you do about it? I take a break! There comes a time when you simply have to back away and say enough is enough, and do a rewind.

Sometimes you simply need to step away from your craziness for a while and do different and enjoyable activities. This could be a vacation or a staycation, but it needs to be relaxing. If time allows, go away to some relaxing place and just rest. Take along a good book (the Bible is a great one) and sink your thoughts into it. I seem to remember reading in that good book that Jesus went away for a while to rest, so why shouldn’t we?

Maybe you just need to take time alone to rethink your schedule. Most of the time our schedules get overfilled because we can’t seem to say that little two-letter word – “no.” Trust me, I have learned this from experience. Recently I’ve been able to refuse some requests and not feel too guilty about it.

There are some important things that we need to have on our schedule every day: letting God talk to us through His word and talking to Him in prayer are great starters to a day. All of the other stuff can be scheduled according to importance, but don’t forget to also schedule some rest time. It is as important as anything else you may need to do.

“I needed a break” is a legitimate excuse. Don’t be afraid to use it – just don’t overuse it!

Now, I need a break.
