Friday Links Round-up (Heat Index Edition)
The “dog days” are definitely here. Yesterday, it was about 102 and today it’s supposed to be about the same…and tomorrow… The heat index is around 105-110, which is weird, seeing as how is hasn’t rained recently.
Oh well, all this heat can’t stop good events from happening this weekend. If you are anywhere near this area, I want to invite you to two good things:
1. The Cox Boulevard church of Christ in Sheffield, Alabama, will have her annual “Celebration in Song” tonight from 7-midnight. This singing is usually attended by about 900 people, and is fabulous. I’m one of the song leaders, so you can take advantage of that time to go get a cookie and a drink! If you come, stay as long as possible. Some of the best singing happens around 11-12. If you need directions to that congregation, click here.
2. The 9th Avenue church of Christ (where I work) will have a special teachers’ workshop tomorrow from 8:30-Noon. Dwina Willis and Becky Welch will be speaking to those ladies who teach elementary grades and preschool in the Bible School program. This promises to be a good day for our teachers, but any ladies who wish to come are invited.
Now, on to the articles from this week:
- Drew Kizer, at Truth and Repose, posted an excellent article to get your study started on the idea of worshipping on Saturday, as the Seventh-Day Adventists teach. Please read “That Fourth Command.”
- Jim Faughn asks a very intriguing question at Jim’s Gems: “What Is a Judeo-Christian?”
- Christian Courier’s website offers a great article this week by Wayne Jackson. Take a few moments to read “The Awesome Responsibility of Church Leadership.”
A couple of fun links about baseball:
- Joey Sparks writes a thought-provoking article on the “steroids era” on his blog. Read “Bonds & 756: A Call for Consistency.”
- My friend, Matt Reaves, is a huge St. Louis Cardinal fan, but he can’t stand the manager, Tony LaRussa. I think he expresses that well in “The Logic Behind Batting the Pitcher 8th.”
From the Faughnblog archives, take a few moments to re-read “Welcome to Vatican Science Class” (originally published in January of 2006).
Next week, two fun new series will begin on Faughnblog. One will be about music and family, the other about college football. Also the series on Psalms will continue. Stay tuned and keep supporting The Faughn Family of Four!
