Friday Links Roundup: 100 Things Edition

No, we do not have 100 links for you. (We actually want you to read the articles we link to!)

The “100 Things” refers to something I read a couple of weeks ago that motivated me. Valerie Matheny, on her blog, wrote a list of 100 things she would like to do in this life. I have thought about writing lists like this before, but I always put it off.

Not this time! Valerie’s list gave me the “umph” I needed to start my list. I am taking the time to really think through it, but I have almost 30 items on it so far. My goal is to finish it and publish it here for next Wednesday’s list. Even if you do not make a list of 100 things, a list like this is motivating. It also helps you really think about organization, which is so important to me right now.

On to the links for this week:

1. Neil Richey published his latest e-magazine for preachers, The Preacher’s Operator’s Handbook, this week. It was an honor to be asked to write in this issue. Here is the link to the magazine [pdf].

2. Mark Adams has been writing a series of posts on public speaking lately. He wrote a post this week that I thought was the best so far. It is called “Being Interesting: Don’t Rush It.”

3. Rob Lester, at Creation Faith Facts, gave a great “fact” this week concerning the Genesis 6 flood. (And the title of the post is great, too!) Enjoy “There’s Power in the Flood.”

4. It is amazing how little things can become very big things over time. Neal Pollard uses that concept for a helpful post, “The Problem is in the Air.”

5. Finally, a post that deals primarily with Tennessee, but should help us all think a little bit. When we are planning sermons, programs, and other works, we nearly always discuss the impact on families. By that, we usually mean at least a married couple, often with children. However, the Tennessean reported this week that “Married Couples Now a Minority in Tennessee,” and they are well in the minority in Davidson County. Just a good tidbit to know and use in our evaluation of ministry ideas.

We hope you have a great weekend. We are excited to have a guest speaker at Lebanon Road on Sunday morning, and we have a very full day, with classes, a potluck, a service at Heartland Towers, a camp meeting, and Lads to Leaders meeting and evening worship.

All in all, it will be a great day to remember the Lord!
