Friday Links Roundup: Bible Drills Edition

We try to teach Mary Carol and Turner some Bible facts. Of course, we’re starting with some of the accounts in the Bible that most children hear, and we want them to know the basic story (just have Mary Carol tell you about Jonah!). We sing the books of the New Testament and talk about Noah’s Ark and the walls of Jericho.  Just basic Bible stuff.

We may be pushing it a bit too hard, though. Monday night, we had a great family over for supper. The Clays have two little boys: Peyton and Matthew. When I got home from visiting, Turner was waking up from his nap. I went to his room and said, “Guess who’s coming over for supper?” “Who?” “Matthew,” I said. Turner asked, “Matthew?” So, I tried to make sure he knew who that was by asking, “Matthew and….?”  His response? “Mark, Luke, and John.”

Maybe we’ll lay off the New Testament books for a week or so.

On to the links for this week:

1. Mitchell Skelton takes an interesting look at facing temptations in his post “Thankful for Temptation.”

2. The Bible has so much to say about our hearts. The Let Me Be It blog writes a moving article called “Where Are Our Hearts?”

3. As one who was a youth minister for almost 9 years, I have a special place in my heart for those who work with young people so closely. Robbie Mackenzie (a very good youth minister) wrote quite a personal post this week that all youth ministers (and anyone who appreciates their work) need to read. Enjoy “Youth Ministry and Brokenness.”

4. Joe Palmer has been writing a series of posts on alcohol. His latest sums up much of what he has said and, I think, it is quite practical. (Also, the links to the other posts are on the right-hand side of this post currently, if you want to read the entire series.) Here is “Why Not Drink.”

We hope you have a wonderful weekend. We are trying to have a weekend at home, just enjoying family time.

No matter what you are doing this weekend, make sure you remember the Lord on His day.
