Friday Links Roundup: Change of Plans Edition
The 9th Avenue youth rally is just 28 days away. When you plan for something for so long, it gets hard to believe when it is just one month away. I hope you are planning on coming.
I was informed this week that our adult class teacher, Glenn Colley, is not going to be able to attend. He serves as an elder for the West Huntsville church of Christ, and the eldership is taking a trip to a mission point.
However, it is wonderful to know so many Christians who are willing to help. With just a few days to go until the rally, brother Dale Jenkins has agreed to “step in” and teach the classes for us. Dale will do a tremendous job. Most of you know him and will want to make your way to Haleyville on January 4-5 to hear him, as well as all our other speakers and teachers.
For your links this week, enjoy the following articles:
1. Since brother Jenkins is helping me out so much, he gets the first spot in the roundup. On Dale’s Spot, he writes about the moving around the Spring Meadows congregation is doing, and makes a good application for all of us.
2. I think medicine is a wonderful thing. In fact, I took some just a couple of weeks ago to help fight off a sinus infection. However, I am worried about the amount of medicine Americans take. Brother Wayne Jackson writes a wonderful article dealing with this subject entitled “Hand Me a Pill; My Syndrome is Bugging Me!”
3. Speaking of medical “stuff,” take a few moments to read Justin Guin’s article “Preventing Heart Disease.”
4. For the past several weeks, Steve Sanders has been posting a series entitled “How Do You Spell Leadership?” He used words that begin with the letters that spell “Leadership” to give a good series. For those of you who preach, this would make a good single sermon or a great series. Below are the links to each article:
- L = Leadership Defined
- E = Enthusiasm
- A = Authoritative without being Authoritarian
- D = Delegate
- E = Encourage
- R = Respect
- S = Self-Control
- H = Handle God’s Word
- I = Interested in the Future
- P = Perseverance
5. What a great article this is! I love sports (I know that shocks you), but hopefully I am able to keep my love of sports “in check.” Wade Tannehill is strong enough to talk about how sports has become a religion for some. I know this article caused me to think about myself a little.
I hope you have a great weekend. We are looking forward to some Christmas get-togethers this weekend, and 9th Avenue is also hosting our Area-Wide Youth Series Sunday night. Charles Abernathy will be our speaker. If you are in the area, be with us Sunday night at 6:00.
No matter what, put God first every day, but especially on His day!

Adam,
Once again I look forward to exploring your links recommendations, especially the one on leadership. Sorry you have to “endure” Charles this weekend. (Ha!) Tell him I said hello.
