Friday Links Roundup: Day Early for Travel Edition

It’s holiday travel season. We begin “making the rounds” this afternoon, as we are headed to Olive Branch, Mississippi. Leah’s sister and brother-in-law live there, and her family are all coming to exchange gifts and enjoy some time together. We’ll return on Saturday.

On Tuesday night, Leah and I went visiting, but I also surprised her. A couple of daring guys (JD and Shea) came to the house and watched the kids for a couple of hours while we were away. After visiting, I took Leah to the Opryland Hotel to see the Christmas lights. They were truly amazing. While my phone doesn’t take very good pictures, you “get the drift” from these shots:

We are looking forward to going to my family’s house next week for Christmas. We will leave Tuesday night (after our mid-week services) and return home on Monday. I don’t know how many posts I’ll put on here during that time, but we’ll send out the emails if we put any up.

Just a couple of links this week:
1. It’s a great thing that Christians “get along,” and it is tremendously important that Christians be friendly. However, are Christians just friends that happen to meet together a couple of times each week? Read Richard Mansel’s article on Forthright magazine’s webpage.
2. Study Bibles are everywhere, and there seem to be more coming out constantly. The size and amount of material in a study Bible can be helpful, but it can also be overwhelming. Albert Mohler writes a bit about study Bibles, and then he makes three recommendations. This article is simple, but definitely worth your time.
3. One fun link this week. Every year, I look forward to this link coming out. Lake Superior State University has been compiling the “Banished Words List” every year for about 30 years. It is just for fun, but it is truly funny. They scour hundreds of suggestions for words that, in the previous year, were misused or overused in popular language. This year, one of my pet peeves made the list. I can’t stand it when people say, “It is what it is,” and that expression finally made the list! To see the entire list, and enjoy a laugh, click here.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! If you are traveling this weekend or in the coming days, please be careful. If you are traveling in or around Nashville this weekend, stop by Lebanon Road and worship with us. We’d love to have you with us!
