Friday Links Roundup: Death of a Gentleman Edition

It is no secret that I am a college basketball fan. It is the greatest sport of them all! One thing I enjoy doing is thinking of the sport historically, instead of just “this year.”

As I type this, the greatest coach of them all is nearing death. John Wooden is listed in “grave” condition on the West Coast. He won 10 national titles at UCLA and is regarded by many as the greatest coach in any sport (and I would agree).

However, it was his demeanor that made him stand out. Stories of how he loved his wife are legendary. He didn’t use any “antics” on the sidelines during games, choosing rather to watch and soaking in what needed to be worked on in practice later. His writings and quotes on leadership are amazing.

I hope that, after Coach Wooden passes, the sports world remembers more than just the national titles. I hope they remember that a gentleman can be a great coach, and that young men will respond to a man like him.

On to the links for this week:

1. Trent Wheeler asks us to think about how we treat each other in our congregations in a very challenging post. If you open your mind, you’ll gain from “Country Club Theology.”

2. Tim Hall, at Forthright, shares with us a Biblical view of “reading” in our modern world. Enjoy “Give Attention to Reading.”

3. It’s been awhile since we did this, but our final link this week is to one of our own articles. If you are fairly new to our blog, enjoy one of our oldest posts, entitled “Know Your Enemy.”

We hope you have a great weekend. We are beginning a new series at Lebanon Road on Sunday that will focus on the 23rd Psalm. We hope this series encourages us all to know God as our Shepherd.

Wherever you are on the Lord’s Day, make sure you take time to worship Him.
