Friday Links Roundup: Grrrr and Great Edition
The “Grrrr” this week comes about from two frustrating things that happened today. First, I was to attend a funeral, but I wrote down the wrong time and missed it. Thankfully, I was not to have a part in it; I was just going out of kindness. Then, I got home and tried to mow the yard, but I didn’t finish. Something’s wrong and I can’t fix it (which, of course, means that it’s more than being out of gas).
The “Great” this week comes about because we had about 22 members of the Lebanon Road family leave today to help out in Pearlington, Mississippi. They will be knocking doors tomorrow and then helping with the morning worship on Sunday. Pray for their safety and for their efforts. The Pearlington congregation had around 12 on Sunday at the beginning of the year, but they have been around 30 lately! That’s truly exciting.
A lot of good posts this week. Here they are:
1. It is sad that so many absent themselves from worship when they are on vacation. Drew Kizer reflects on some wonderful things that happened as he and his family worshipped on their vacation.
2. Neil Richey writes a very good article about what each congregation can use funds for as they seek to serve God. This would make a great sermon idea!
3. Preacher Pen gives us some thoughts on modern-day entertainment from a personal trip to a currently-popular film. Parents, PLEASE read this!!!
4. As our personal finances get tighter, it can be easy to think about cutting out our contribution. Jeremiah Tatum boldly tackles this issue.
5. My dad, Jim Faughn, posts an excellent article about some things he has learned since he was appointed as an elder. On a personal note, I made copies of this article for our seven elders at Lebanon Road and they all loved it. They saw it as very encouraging.
6. Dale Jenkins writes about encouraging preachers. He recently spent time with Ted Burleson and used that experience as the basis for this article. Ted is a man whom I also greatly admire, so I truly appreciate this post.
7. Small Notebook wrote a brief post this week about financial fear, but took a Biblical perspective. I hope you will read her words. (You might also want to note the comment I made…shameless, I know!).
8. Finally, a video. Trey Morgan writes that he helped some of the young people in Childress, Texas, make this video. It is so powerful, and illustrates beautifully one of the principles we try to teach our young people.
I told you there were several links this week! Some great stuff, and I hope it keeps coming.
Don’t forget the Lord, especially on His day. If you’re around Nashville, come by and see us, and if you are near Pearlington, Mississippi, support that congregation and our workers who are there this weekend.
