Friday Links Roundup: Here We Go Again Edition
Yes, it’s time for us to hit the road again. While my schedule is much lighter than it was in 2008 (thankfully!), we still have a few times we will be away. I’m just grateful than very few are extended periods, like this one.
Tonight, I’ll be one of the song leaders for a singing at the Glendale Road church of Christ in Murray, Kentucky. My good friend Todd Walker does a tremendous job putting this singing together each year. I led there about three years ago and enjoyed it tremendously. A handful of song leaders will each lead for about 20-30 minutes. If you are near Murray, head out to that singing at 7:00 tonight!
Then, after spending some of Saturday visiting with my parents, we’ll head up to Mount Vernon, Illinois. On Sunday, I’ll begin a series of Gospel Meetings with the church of Christ there. The theme they have assigned me is “Our Holy Family,” and all the lessons texts assigned are from the final two chapters of Ephesians. (Yes, Lebanon Road folks, you’ll be hearing these in the future sometime!) If you are within walking, driving, or flying distance of Mount Vernon, come to as many of these as you can. Here is the schedule:
I’ve been looking forward to this meeting, and I’m glad I was able to finish up all the lessons ahead of time, PowerPoint presentations included. We hope to teach the truth and encourage the good folks in Mount Vernon through this series.
On to the links for this week:
1. Doug Brackbill writes a very interesting perspective on the way in which many congregations hire preachers. Read this one with an open mind and just compare his words to what we often see in our congregations. Great perspective, I think.
2. Jeff Foster writes a great article on one of my favorite phrases in the Bible: “Go and Sin No More.”
3. This post isn’t deep, but it is very needed. We live in a time when some say we can’t know truth. Mike Benson, from a Biblical perspective, shows why that is such a harmful teaching.
4. A great financial article with some encouragement tied to it. Getting out of debt is hard, but it is worth it (we’re SO close!). Mrs. Micah writes a great article entitled “Getting Out of Debt Builds Character.” If you’re trying to get out, this will provide a great “umph!”
5. Last, but certainly not least, we have a post that is becoming world-famous. The World Digital Library is set to become one of the greatest online resources the web has ever seen. Original documents, pictures, maps, and other materials from all over the globe are being put online for anyone to view, read, see, and learn. Some of these date back well into the “B.C.’s.” The site has “only” about 1400 resources thus far, but they constitute a dazzling display from history. Bookmark this one, and keep coming back to learn.
I don’t know how much I’ll get to post next week, so just check back often.
Have a great weekend. Remember the Lord on His day.
