Friday Links Roundup: Motivation Edition

I am a dreamer. (You may say that, but I’m not the only one…). I dream big dreams. However, I don’t write down those dreams often. I guess I am basically a day-dreamer.

Until now.

I am devouring a book (ok, not literally, but I am reading it quickly and with great interest) that I’ve had on my shelves for some time, and it has caused me to begin writing down my dreams. Last night, I started writing (or, typing) my dreams for Lebanon Road as if they had already happened. I can’t wait to get back to it. There is something about writing these dreams in this way that gives a great deal of motivation.

What dreams do you have? Write them down as if they have been completed! See what emotions rise within you. See what excitement builds. And then, get about making those dreams happen!

1. My friend Steve Higginbotham wrote a very serious post this week that every elder, preacher, and parent should read at least once. It deals with actual numbers from congregations that kept up with young people who did or did not marry Christians, and how faithful they are now. Here is that post, entitled “Unacceptable Statistics.” Then, to drive the point home further, he followed up with a shorter, but just as powerful post, about the children of those couples. Here is “Unintended Consequences.” Please read both articles with an honest mind, and then be ready to spend some time in prayer.

2. Ever feel confused, even when it comes to Biblical matters? You’ll find some great encouragement in Tony Johnson’s article “It’s All Greek to Me.”

3. I love Jeopardy! Recently, the show had two former super-champions take on an IBM computer as a neat publicity stunt. John Gaines writes a great article about a funny moment on that show in his post “Watson Missed the Clue.”

4. Stuart Yancy, who attends the Central church of Christ in Paducah, writes about how a particular Bible verse has caused him to think more seriously about how he needs to be more excited about Christianity. Enjoy his post, which is simply called “Enthusiasm.”

5. Finally, a financial post that I thought was well done. Craig Ford writes about the budget, and about how we often believe things that are not true about budgets. Enjoy his post “5 Budgeting Lies that People Ignorantly Pass Along.”
