Friday Links Roundup: No Wonder People are Sick Edition

As always, once we get have these colder months, many get sick with various problems. It seems that nowhere has been able to avoid these flues and strong colds that have gone around. It has certainly touched our attendance a bit here, and I’ve heard from many others saying the same thing.

I’m not a doctor (and I don’t play one in the blogosphere), but the weather over the past month or so has been unbelievable. Just in the last few days, we have gone from a high of 70 on Wednesday, to a high of 38 on Thursday. That’s been the pattern this winter. In one seven day period, we went from temperatures around 10, to temps in the 50s, back to the 20s. I don’t know if this kind of weather causes people to be sick, but it can’t help!

The great part about today is, even though it’s a bit cold (it was 29 when I drove to my study), the sun is shining brightly. That always helps keep spirits up. However, it may not be enough to get me out in the yard this weekend. I might have to force myself to watch some basketball.

On to the links for this week:

1. After all the uproar over Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday recently, it’s hard to believe that some scientists are now saying that parts of the Theory of Evolution might not be correct. Take a few moments and read Eric Lyons’ article dealing with this admission.

2. Wayne Jackson offers an interesting perspective on a question we have probably all asked at some time in our life: “What Are You Looking for In a Church?”

3. David Courington offers some very helpful advice for parents in his post “Put On Your Mask First.”

4. What does a preacher do all day? Or, how does a preacher get it all done? Dale Jenkins writes a very personal article about these perspectives and then offers some “Time Tips.”

5. A fun post here, as David Lemmons posts a poem written by Alvy Ford entitled “Christian ABCs.

6. Here’s a shocking statement: I’m not much of a handyman. Okay, now that you are over that shock, here’s a simple post from Small Notebook that lists 10 common tools every household should make sure to have around. Yes, I have…..well……most of these.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend. I’m hoping for a little warmer weather so we can start working on preparing our garden. We didn’t get to have one last year, so we are really looking forward to starting one this year, but I don’t want to try to dig through a frozen tundra!

Whatever your plans are for the weekend, don’t forget the Lord on His day.
