Friday Links Roundup: Pray for Heartlanders Edition
In a few minutes, my family is planning to get on the road and get to Paducah, Kentucky. Tomorrow is my mother’s birthday, and we are looking forward to seeing her for awhile. We also plan to visit with my grandmother, who is not doing well at all.
Paducah has been in the news quite a bit recently. The ice and snow that came through earlier this week has totally crippled the Heartland. Paducah, Metropolis, Mayfield, and other towns in that area are without power, cell phone service and other things. Some places are starting to get those back, but many are being told it will be weeks before power is restored. We were not sure until this morning if we’d be able to go, due to the lack of available roads and other things! Please pray for the people in this area, especially the elderly and those with small children. It is quite a scary time.
On to the links for this week.
1. John Piper has been hitting the pro-life texts hard in the face of President Obama’s actions. Two links you will want to note from Piper. First is an older post from the Desiring God website that was re-run this week. It deals with talking points about abortion vs. pro-life. The second is a YouTube clip of a portion of Piper’s latest video podcast. I listened to the entire sermon and, literally, found myself wiping tears away. I don’t listen to Piper often, but this was one of the best sermons I’ve heard him deliver. Instead of a link, I’m posting the video below [length: 3:40].
2. Jon Shelton has been adding several things to his blog recently. None is finer than his sobering and honest look at “The Problem of Internet Pornography.” This article will truly make you think.
3. We know about Jesus’ teaching about the logs in our eyes, but what can those logs be? Matthew Morine lists two common logs with which we might struggle.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and I hope you will pray for those struggling in Kentucky and surrounding areas.
No matter where you are, make sure you don’t forget the Lord on His day.
