Friday Links Roundup: Recap and Tears Edition
If you have not been on the blog lately, you might have missed all the brief updates I posted from the Freed-Hardeman Lectures. I could not send out the usual email updates, and you probably wouldn’t have wanted me to anyway, since there were so many updates. Hopefully, you will take the time to look at the 18 updates. Each is brief. Some are just pictures, while others are brief notes or interviews from FHU. There is also one recording of a song. I apologize if the quality isn’t that great, but I wanted to give you just some of the “flavor” of the week so you might be more apt to attend next year. Lord willing, the lectures will cover both letters to the Corinthians in 2010 (the first full week of February, as always).
While we enjoyed the lectures, this is also quite a rough time for our family. My grandmother is quickly going downhill. On Wednesday evening, we were told by the hospice nurse that she had 3 to 5 days left to live. We are, literally, waiting for the phone to ring. We are in Nashville and plan to be until her passing, but we could be going to Kentucky at any point in the next few days. A lot of tears have already been shed, but we know that Grandma is a Christian, so it is time for her homegoing.
On to the links for this week, and there are a lot!
1. My dad has written a brilliant post about my grandmother’s experience as compared to other times in life. This should be a published piece. Please read, “Watching Her Breathe.”
2. You may have heard about the recent layoffs at the Crystal Cathedral. Trey Morgan unveils an interesting detail in that story. Check out this eye-opening article.
3. I’ve always been fascinated by David’s Mighty Men. Neil Richey introduces us to a few of them. There are some great preaching points here!
4. Need some frightening stats dealing with pornography (internet and otherwise)? Jon Shelton lists a ton that are useful for filing away.
5. We all need to share how Jesus saved us as often as we can. Paula Harrington shares her story in a powerful way under the beautiful title, “I am Saved.”
6. Glenn Brooke posted a very helpful 6:03 video on YouTube that gives a visual tour of the online version of the ESV Study Bible. Check it out here.
7. It may be hard to believe, but Facebook is now 5 years old. For others, it is hard to believe that this site is only five years old! Albert Mohler takes a look at the phenomenon of social networking, and includes some helpful tips for parents.
I hope you enjoy the links this week. Also, there is a round-table discussion on this week’s iPreach, recorded late (late!) Wednesday night, about the FHU lectures. If you’ve never listened to iPreach, you can click here for all the episodes. Also, the podcast now downloads on iTunes if you so desire. Just search for “Dale Jenkins” or “Adam Faughn” and it should come up in your search.
Have a wonderful weekend, and never forget the Lord on His Day!

Hey Adam! Thanks for the great links. I enjoyed the information on Facebook…you and I, along with old high school classmates, can attest to that!
I wanted to comment on the pornography link. The statics were alarming! I knew pornography was a problem in America (and apparently the world!) but I had no idea how bad it was. The stats on children and their access/affect on them almost made me cry. Thank you for posting this link. I will pass it on to my family and friends.
God bless
