Friday Links Roundup: “Wii Believe” Edition
On Sunday, our summer camp begins. At Lebanon Road, we hold our own camp at Valley View. Nearly every camper is from Lebanon Road (there are a few visitors and some folks from Pearlington, Mississippi, as well) and virtually the entire staff is from our congregation, too. We provide the counselors, cooks, clean-up crew, teachers, lifeguard…the whole leadership except for our nightly speakers. It is a huge undertaking, but one that always yields a great “harvest” among our young people.
Our theme for 2010 is “Wii Believe,” and our themes will be, of course, from the Nintendo Wii. Our sports teams are named after popular games on the Wii, and our topics each day are taken from that gaming device, too. Countless hours have already been put in by so many in preparing, but we are still pressing on toward the start of camp. Please pray that the week will be fruitful and encouraging.
AS A SPECIAL NOTE, there will be no “regular” updates on the blog next week, since I will be at camp. I may try to upload some pictures from my phone, but I won’t be able to send out the usual updates via email, Twitter or Facebook. Check in periodically to see if there are some camp pictures. My goal is to post 1-2 each day if possible.
On to the links for this week:
1. Since Sunday is also Independence Day here in the USA, I found this post from Matt Dabbs to be well done. Enjoy “American Patriotism and Christianity.”
2. It can be so easy to lose our focus in our Christian walk. Distractions abound and we are constantly bombarded with new distractions. John Brown helps us continue on with his post “Staying on Target.”
3. Richard Mansel tackled a topic that needs to be addressed more often. He provides good Biblical and statistical evidence for the truth in his post “Cohabitation and Marriage.”
4. Timothy Archer provides some much needed encouragement with his post “Lift Up Your Eyes.”
5. Okay, one just for fun. As a fan of the New York Yankees, I couldn’t pass up linking to this video. One of the great joys of the past 15 years has been watching Mariano Rivera close out game after game after game. The New York Times reveals how amazing what he does really is. Enjoy this video. It’s only 2:40 in length.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend. Considering it’s a holiday weekend, we hope you get to spend some time relaxing and being with family or friends.
However, even though Sunday is America’s birthday, we hope you’ll remember the Lord, since it is ultimately His Day.

Adam, you do a great job with this blog, and we are truly blessed to have you and your family at Lebanon Road. Having said that, if the New York Yankees NEVER win another game, it will be too soon for me…go Red Sox!!! Happy 4th of July to everyone, and stay cool and hydrated at camp!
