Church Life,  Trust God

God Is So Good

So many things have been going on in our world today that cause us to think only of the bad side of life here on earth. There is much sin and wrongdoing all around us. Just turn on the news and you’ll hear all about it. Our daily walk as Christians who are trying to live for Christ and lead others to Him sometimes gets more overwhelming with each passing day. We become loaded down with the heaviness of sinful living and illness around us and we lose sight of the wonderful life that is set before us.

Often we fail to see the bright side of living the Christian life. We fail to focus on the light that shines around us. We fail to “let [our] light so shine before men that they may see [our] good works and glorify [our] Father in Heaven” (Matt. 5:16). We fail to be a grateful child of God!

Each of our days should begin with the realization that God is good. He allowed us a night of rest, and welcomed us to a new day to be used in His service. He blesses us with food to eat, clothes to wear, air to breathe, nature to see, and on and on this list could go.

One of His greatest blessings is “God’s people.” Those faithful believers who willingly and quietly go about doing good.

I was recently reminded of this when our oldest grandson, Luke, left his childhood home to go to his first full-time job in Salem, Virginia.  Before he left, the Willow Avenue church in Cookeville, Tennessee (where he had worked for the summer) gave a dinner to wish him farewell and to welcome their new Youth Minister and his family. Those wonderful, godly people sent Luke on his way with the knowledge that he is loved and appreciated. They also let the new minister and his family know that they are welcomed to work with (not for) them for the glory of God.

When Luke arrived in Salem he was welcomed by several members of the congregation. There was a stack of greeting cards welcoming him and a house which belongs to the church that had been lovingly cleaned, updated, and prepared for him.

God’s people are good and each of us should spend time focusing on that fact – God blesses us to be surrounded by good people.

Oh, bad things will still happen, and sometimes to good people, but knowing that you are never alone is a blessing from God.

Let’s focus on this – God is so good…and so are His people.

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you…” (Phil. 1:3)
