“Greater Things” Thursdays #3: “Checking In” on Good Works

Lebanon Road’s theme for 2011 is “Greater Things.” To emphasize that theme, each Thursday we will focus on good things we do, and suggest ways to make them even greater!

How many members of the Lebanon Road family are on Facebook? I don’t know, but it’s quite a few. (It’s easily more than 75, and probably more like 100.) How many  use FourSquare? Ummm…probably not many (I used to, but don’t anymore).

Why is that any big deal? It’s because of one of the cool features on Facebook (and FourSquare) that not only lets people know where you are, but also lets you publish what you are doing.

If you have a smart phone (iPhone, Android, Blackberry, etc.) that has a Facebook application (or, “app,” as the cool people say), you probably have used the “places” feature when you were at a nice restaurant, a good show or movie, or at a sporting event. I’ve even used it when I’m with the kids at the local park.

——————————-

What does this have to do with “Greater Things”? Why not “check in” when you are doing work for the Lord?

This is not meant to “brag” about good works. It is simply a statement of where you are. For example, if you attend the service at Sycamores Terrace this Sunday (it’s at 2PM…you are going, right?!?!), why not check in with Facebook places (or FourSquare) and simply type something like, “Enjoying worship with the residents.”

If several members would get in the habit of doing this when they visit in homes, go to the hospitals and nursing homes, or when they are holding a Bible study (or doing any other work in the name of Christ), others would “See your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

So, “check in” when you are doing good works!
