“Greater Things” Thursdays #5 – Sycamores Terrace Services
Lebanon Road’s 2011 theme is “Greater Things.” So, each Thursday, we are featuring an area of our congregation in which we want to strive to achieve that goal.

Many congregations have regularly-scheduled services at local nursing homes or assisted living homes. It is a wonderful way to encourage the residents of those facilities, and it also is good for the congregation’s reputation in the local community. Some have singing services, while others conduct a more “traditional” worship service.
At Lebanon Road, we support two local homes in this way. This week, we want to focus on one of them, Sycamores Terrace. It is located about 3 miles away from our building, but still on Lebanon Road. Twice each month, Lebanon Road leads a worship service on Sunday afternoons in a large meeting room within this facility.
Those who are present sing, pray, partake of the Lord’s Supper, give, and are treated to a fine lesson from God’s Word by one of our men. About 10 different men have spoken at various times when I have been present. While there are not many residents who come to the service, those who do are so gracious and thankful for the work that is being done. Each one is truly encouraged, and enjoys the time in worship and the time in visitation before and after the service.
I have always been impressed by those who lead in these services. Each one who leads singing, prayers, the lessons, or the Lord’s Supper is always well prepared and so thoughtful. The kindness that is on display is second-to-none. Others come just to take part in the service, and their friendliness is just as meaningful to each resident.

But, there are always greater things we can accomplish. Lebanon Road, we need more to attend! I know 2:00 on Sunday afternoon is a difficult time. Those with small children really have a hard time coming, and we understand that not everyone can come every single time. But more could come who do not. This is a simple way to give about an hour of your time to encourage some wonderful people, and to be encouraged by them, as well.
Why not join us this week? You’ll be glad you did, and you’ll be making another step in striving for Greater Things!
