“Hello In There”

I happen to live where there are a good number of medical providers, services, etc. Our town is not a huge metropolitan area, but there are two hospitals and more than a few clinics, labs, doctors’ offices, etc. There are also other health providers in nearby communities.

As one might expect in a situation like this, the multiplicity of choices means, among other things, some competition among these various services. That, in turn, leads some of these places and people to advertise in order to make people aware of what is offered.

Currently, one of the imaging centers in our area is advertising a service and some equipment that will provide an extremely accurate image of a child in his/her mother’s womb. According to the radio commercial, the image is so clear that you’ll be tempted to say, “Hello in there.”

Wait! If what we are being told by so many today is true, to whom would that phrase be addressed?

According to many of our day, I just used the wrong pronoun. Instead of asking “to whom,” I should have typed “to what.” According to some people what a woman is carrying in her body is not a child. It is merely an opportunity for her to make a choice – a life and death choice. That type of thinking has led to some, in my mind, gruesome statistics.

I do not know when you will read these words, but I am typing them at approximately 1:30 p.m. (CDT) on September 17, 2018. According to www.numberofabortions.com, there have already been approximately 1,435 abortions today in our nation. I have to use the word “approximately” because that website has an actual “abortion clock.” The number on that clock changes faster than I can type.

I will not go into a variety of scriptural, ethical, and/or moral reasons why I am opposed to abortion. Most of us have often read or heard those arguments. I merely wanted to present something for your consideration.

We live in a very confusing time. It is now possible to “see” a baby in the womb so clearly that we might be tempted to say, “Hello in there.” It is also possible – and deemed by many to be perfectly acceptable – to say to that same baby something that is permanent and irreversible:

“Goodbye in there!”

By the way – in the last five minutes or so, there have been five more abortions in our nation.

So sad!
