"House-to-House" Helps (originally published November 7)

The church of Christ in Jacksonville, Alabama, oversees the work of “House to House, Heart to Heart.” Many of you probably get this wonderful bi-monthly newsletter in your mail. It is sent free of charge and many congregations blankets portions or all of the town in which they work and worship.

The articles are well-written and the variety keeps many people interested who would not be otherwise interested in the churches of Christ. There is doctrinal teaching in each issue, but there are also humorous articles and quotes, quizzes and short modern-day parables. The newsletter is printed on slick paper and the layout is hard to beat. Brother Allen Webster is the main writer for the paper, but others help and submit material.

If your congregation does not mail out “House to House,” then you are missing out on a great evangelistic tool. Literally dozens of Bible studies are established with each issue, and many souls decide to obey the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Leah and I just happened to be in Paducah, Kentucky, when my dad baptized a young lady and her husband just over a month ago. The young lady’s first contact with the Lord’s Church was through the “House to House” mail out from the Central church of Christ.

One other great tool that “House to House” offers is their website. Besides many questions and answers and general information about the paper, you can also find every issue ever printed of the paper (this is the 10th year). The back issues are in PDF format, and you may read them with the free edition of Adobe Acrobat Reader. These back issues make a wonderful addition to a library, especially if you are in charge of obtaining material for bulletins.

Take a look at “House to House.” You will be impressed by what you see. If you have questions about the publication, contact Todd Clippard, minister at the Burleson church of Christ and one of the men who answers questions submitted to the newsletter and the website
