Is This Really Breaking News?

This post may seem more like a rant, but it does have a Biblical component. Please read on.

Is anyone else tired of knowing every move that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes make? It seems that, every time I get on a news website, one of the headlines is dealing with their relationship. And, by looking at some of the papers carrying those stories, it would seem that everyone on earth cares!

Today is no exception. One of the leading headlines deals with their upcoming wedding. And, who cares? I guess people in Asia care, because the following came from The Hindustan Times!

Hollywood hunk Tom Cruise is reportedly desperate to tie the knot with his fiancee Kate Holmes, who delivered his child Suri last week. The Hollywood star and Holmes have been engaged since last year, but were waiting for their baby to arrive before proceeding with wedding plans.

Now that the rant is done, did you notice anything that seemed a bit backward in that story? The media is now celebrating a couple who got engaged, had a child and then is going to get married. When was the last time we celebrated a couple who could actually show a little self-control?

Maybe scientologists need to reread the Bible. God didn’t say “the engagement bed is undefiled.” Rather, the Bible teaches that the marriage “bed is undefiled” (Hebrews 13:4).

Let’s teach our children not to even care about such people. Let’s teach them the joy of a loving married relationship. God designed it that way, so it is the perfect way. We also need to remind our children that only those who follow God’s way will enter eternal life.

And that’s far more important than “keeping up with the future Cruises.”
