It’s All About…

Along with the masses, I began my year with a renewed attempt to be healthier and went back to the gym. Anyone who knows me well knows that exercise is not my “activity of choice,” but I do believe it is beneficial to our health and general well-being. I will have to admit that I feel better and have a sense of accomplishment when I get to the gym on a regular basis. Even the Bible gives credit to bodily exercise being of “some value” in 1 Timothy 4 (ESV). However, this article is not about debating exercise. It was inspired by something I saw while at the gym. There is a sign on the gym wall that reads, “In the end, it’s all about you.”

My mind races to so many applications I could make from this one statement but for your sake and my sanity, I will just say this: What makes us think we are so important? We would be nothing if not for our Creator and Sustainer. Psalm 8:3-4 reads, “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?”

I am sometimes amazed at the ability of mankind to exalt ourselves in our own minds. And yet …

If you keep reading Psalm 8, the next two verses (5-6) continue with these words: “Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet.”

Despite being created from the dust of the ground and struggling daily with sin, in one sense, it is all about you. You are why God created. You are why He sent His Son. You are the one for whom He waits to realize your value in His plan.

“[T]here is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents” (Luke 15:10). Is that one you? That’s what it’s all about!
