Thank You, Leah, for 13 Years

Today, Leah and I celebrate our 13th anniversary. Well, actually, we celebrated with a date last night, but that’s a different story.

There are certain topics that I simply cannot put into words well enough to express, and my love and admiration for Leah is right up on that list.

If I had to express what I love about Leah in just a couple of words, I would say it is because she is truly a “lady,” and of course, she is a Godly lady.

We live in a world where the meaning of “lady” has been forgotten. All the precious moments I spend with Leah, though, I get a reminder of what that word is supposed to mean. She acts like, dresses like, and desires to be a lady at all times.

For 13 years, I have had the privilege of being her husband. While every moment hasn’t been perfect, every day has been a joy. She is truly the wife–the “weaver”–of our house, balancing so many plates that I don’t know how she does it. Daily, she shows me what it means to desire to serve God and others.

Leah is the perfect mother for our two children. Mary Carol already wants to be like her, and Turner adores his mother. Both are obviously wise children! I don’t know if they will ever fully realize the blessing they have of calling Leah, “Mommy.” She is their teacher (literally), nurse, referee, judge, cook,…but above all, their example of a lady. If Mary Carol becomes like Leah, she will be a wonderful wife, and if Turner will look for a wife like his mom, he will do well.

Leah, I don’t know what the future holds, but you remind me all the time of Who holds our future. If He allows us 13 more, 23 more, or 113 more years, each one will be a joy. Thank you for saying “I do” 13 years ago, but thank you more for living that same “I do” every day.

13 years ago, this became “our song,” and I still tear up each time I hear it. I hope you enjoy it, my lady.

Thank you, Lord for giving us the best daughter-in-law in the world — to go along with the best son in the world —- not that I’m prejudiced or anything.
