Lebanon Road Report: November 2
It was so nice to be back at Lebanon Road yesterday. Having been away two of the previous three Sundays, it is nice to be back for several weeks now. We will miss a couple more Sundays here around the holidays, but at least that’s a few weeks away. It’s nice to be able to “focus our efforts” here.
I preached two sermons yesterday morning in about 31 minutes. Confused? I preached a 1-minute “mini-sermon” on the election, simply reminding us to vote for those who stood for Biblical principles. Many here have already voted, since Tennessee allows for that, but many who have not yet voted said they appreciated me making mention of it. After those comments, I continued our thoughts on Christian basics (we’re calling it “Christianity 101”) with a sermon on preaching in worship. These lessons have been helpful to me, as we get back to some of the basics. There are about 6 or 7 more to preach, depending on how I put a couple of them together, and they should take us right up to the end of the year.
We had 363 in worship yesterday morning. That’s down just a bit, but we continue to be optimistic when we say that having over 360 is a down week! We continue to push for meeting the goal set by our elders to average 380 by the end of the year. I pray often that we will meet that goal, not just because it’s a nice number, but because that means that more souls are being fed and are worshipping God here at this place.
Last night, our youth group went to the first Winter Youth Series for this year, which was held at Goodletsville. We missed them both in our numbers and because of their great spirit and love. We know they enjoyed the evening and learned a lot. These WYS services are a great thing, and Lebanon Road will be privileged to host the series in March. Even with a large number of our young people away, we still had 208 in attendance last night, including many visitors.
It continues to be a privilege to work with such a fine congregation. We pray for continued opportunities and for the courage and wisdom to take those opportunities to grow and encourage others. Any time you are near Nashville, come by and see what a loving and caring place this is.
