Must See and Must NOT See TV

Dateline NBC aired their fourth “To Catch a Predator” episode on Wednesday night while, hopefully, you were at Bible class. If you missed the episode, please watch the listings for MSNBC, as they have usually re-aired the episodes in this series several times, mostly on Friday or Saturday evenings.

In this fourth installment, the crew went to a small town in Ohio, instead of a big-city suburb. Some people were shocked to learn that there are online sexual predators even in this rural communities. Parents, it’s a problem everywhere. There is no other way to say it! I don’t care if you live in New York City, New York, or Winston County, Alabama, there are sick men looking for underage girls and boys to seduce.

If you do not get MSNBC or if you simply want something for your files, you may read the transcript by clicking here. Be warned, though, it is somewhat graphic.

On another note…

I was flipping through the program guide last evening and saw a show on MTV I had never heard of (which may be a good thing, since the kids in my youth group usually talk about the shows they watch). It was called “Yo Momma.”

Would you like to know the premise behind this show? Doing a little research, here’s what I found.

Two neighborhoods in Los Angeles send out their best trashtalkers and have a competition. That’s it. That’s the show!

It’s really sick that this is what passes for entertainment. The “contestants” make fun of each other’s looks, homes, clothes and, of course, “mommas.” The “winner” (if you can have a winner in something so vile) gets $1000.

Parents, if you allow your children to watch this show, you are simply asking for them to be disrespectful. To my knowledge, this show is only shown in the evenings, when most families are together, and parents can better monitor their children’s TV habits.

Of course, if you have the capability, you should block channels like MTV and never tell your kids the code to unlock the channel. That way, there is no question about them ever being tempted to watch such disrespectful garbage.
