Our Gospel Meeting
[NOTE: The 9th Avenue church of Christ in Haleyville, Alabama, is having her annual Summer Gospel Meeting next week (Sunday-Thursday). Our special guest speaker will be Dr. Ted Burleson of Hamilton, Alabama. Our lessons will focus our minds on our homes and families. We hope you will be here for this special series of lessons. If you would like more information, email me. With the meeting in mind, I wrote this article for our weekly bulletin.]
We have planned. We have invited. We have prayed. Now our Gospel Meeting is here. But what makes a Gospel Meeting special?
Our meeting is a time of Scripture searching. The “Gospel” is the “good news.” The only way
one can learn about the good news it to open the Bible and study it. Our speakers always point us to the pages of the Bible so that we might better prepare ourselves to face the world. Bring a Bible and search the Scriptures (cf. Acts 17:11).

Our meeting is a time for soul saving. Our focus during this Summer meeting will be on the
family. While our lessons may not “pound home” such topics as baptism or repentance, our first mission field is inside the walls of our houses. Many dads, moms, grandparents and children need to serve the Lord better at home. Hearing the messages this week may encourage a dad to become a Christian dad. Many in our neighborhoods need Christ in their home. The only way for that to happen is to have souls saved. Even with this special topic, that is our focus.

Our meeting is a time for sweet singing. At each service there will be beautiful
singing by every person in attendance. On Sunday at 7:00, we will meet for a special period of singing. With our usual singing, and the addition of many guests, the singing will truly be uplifting.

Our meeting is a time for the sanctification of saints. While we are always to be set apart from
the world, Gospel Meetings provide a special time to focus our attention on our walk with God and each other. Each evening we are able to think back through our day and see how we have served God. We have the opportunity to renew our commitment to God in a special way every day at a Gospel Meeting.

Finally, our meeting is a time for soul searching. When I put all these reasons together, it should
cause me to think about my own relationship with Jesus Christ. If I am going to obey Him, I need to make sure I am having a daily “checkup.” A Gospel Meeting provides a time to do that.

Are you going to be here? So many members say things like, “I love to hear the truth taught.” Here’s your chance! The lessons, singing, prayers and fellowship will all be helpful and uplifting. Be here at each time and you’ll be a better father, mother, child, grandparents, friend…Christian.
