Podcasts You Need #5: Money Stuff
Since the attempt to have a financial blog went down the tubes (it was a good idea, just didn’t pan out), I have not stopped enjoying gathering and using financial information. As you see on the Friday Links Roundup from time-to-time, I still read several financial blogs. Additionally, I subscribe to three financial podcasts.
As I mentioned in the first post in this series, I used to subscribe to Dave Ramsey as well, but just couldn’t find the time to listen to a 5-day-per week, 45 minute podcast. If you have that time, I still highly recommend the podcast.
Also, as I mentioned in the post on Quick and Dirty Tips, I listen to The Money Girl. I love that podcast, and they have a new, permanent host, doing a great job. Let me mention that, during the interim, Andrew Horowitz hosted and did a good job with that podcast. He has his own podcast you may want to check out, called The Disciplined Investor.
Here are the three podcasts I listen to on a regular basis.
1. Brian Preston’s Money Guy Podcast. Preston is a financial planner from Atlanta, and puts out this podcast, as he admits, “for giggles.” I mention that because the listener can “hear” that he is having fun as he does the programs. Though fun, the podcast is informative and helpful. I don’t agree with everything he mentions (such as “wise” use of credit cards), but he knows his stuff. You will find this podcast very informative and you will enjoy his candid look at certain issues. (Release: once per week, usually Friday. Length: approximately 30 minutes).
2. I Was Broke, Now I’m Not! This podcast has a simple premise. The host, Joe Sangl, used to be deeply in debt. Now that he is not, he is on a mission to help others get out of debt, too. In fact, Sangl is employed by a church to help people with that. This podcast simply tells the stories of those who need help or those who have been helped. Bad news, though: it has not been updated since June. It’s worth downloading some of the older episodes and listening, though, for motivation. Each is about 7-10 minutes.
3. No Credit Needed Podcast. Since I read NCN’s blog, I was looking forward to the podcast. I was not disappointed, until it was not updated. Each episode was about 20 minutes and came out every two weeks. On the last episode, we were to be getting a new podcast 2-3 times per week that was shorter. It hasn’t happened yet, and that was in early June.
I wish the last two would update their podcasts. They are very good. No matter what, you will enjoy Preston and the Money Girl. Those two are “must-downloads.”
