Podcasts You Need #7: Series Stuff
Some podcasts are not updated every day or week. Some people put a series of programs or lectures out there and you can choose which programs to listen to, then the program is over. I have subscribed to several of these on a few different subjects over the past few months.
1. Memphis School of Preaching 2007 Lectures. MSOP put every lecture on iTunes for listeners to enjoy. Admittedly, I did not listen to every single lecture, but I listened to about 10 or so of some of my favorite speakers. This was a great way to dig deeply into God’s Word while traveling. (Average length: 30 minutes)
2. Money, Debt, and the Bible. Tim Lucas from Liquid Church presented this six-part series. I downloaded every lesson and listened to them several months ago. I don’t agree with Lucas’s stand on several issues, but these sermons are thought-provoking. In my mind, the best lesson was the final one, where Lucas talks about dealing with debt. (Average length: 60 minutes)
3. Porn Again: Porn and the Bible. Another series from Tim Lucas. Be warned: Lucas gets very specific with this subject. If you struggle with pornography, though, this series will truly make you think. The best lesson in this series is the first, where Lucas compares our society with that of ancient Corinth. One negative with Lucas’s sermons is that he often says some words that I find somewhat offensive…I’ll just leave it at that. (Average length: 70 minutes)
4. The Billy Joel Podcast. (Told you there were different subjects here!) This podcast celebrates the 30th anniversary of Joel’s album The Stranger being released. This series was 11 episodes long. If you like hearing music folks talk about other musicians, this is an interesting podcast. One warning: a couple of the podcasts contain curse words. (Average length: 10 minutes)
5. Bob Dylan Podcast. This was an interesting concept. Basically, this podcast walked the listener through highlights of Dylan’s life in a documentary way. Each episode is brief, but filled with information. 19 episodes made up this series, and each was very interesting. (Average length: 7 minutes)
6. Pet Sounds 40th Anniversary. This podcast takes a look at one of the most important rock album’s ever made, Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. This podcast simply has the Boys talking about each track. Hearing some of the comments about the songs is very interesting. (16 episodes. Average length: 3 minutes)
7. Thrillercast. Another podcast celebrating the anniversary of an album. This podcast deals with the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Each of the 28 episodes has different musicians, producers, and workers (including Wierd Al!) talking about their memories of the album. I like this one, but I wish it had more information about the album, instead of just memories. (Average length: 7 minutes)
Enjoy these series podcasts.
