Power Washing

This is one of those times when I am going to have to ask our readers to stick with my often-strange train of thought. I hope it will be beneficial to those who do. We begin with summer yard work …

I bought myself a power washing wand–not a pressure washer, you understand, because those are too expensive–but a power wand that you attach to your regular garden hose. And, boy do I love it! It is much easier to use than a pressure washer and it was one of those rare times when the bargain buy actually does the job you were hoping it would. It is so satisfying to watch all the dirt and grime be powered off the pavement.

As I was powering off the yuck, I was thinking about how God cleanses us. (I warned you!) There were areas on the sidewalk that came clean fairly easily, but then there were the spots that, even with a power washer, I had to work a little to remove the problem. There were even some places where no matter what I tried, there was something left behind for some reason. Is that true in our lives? Are there some areas that seem easy to clean while others we have to scrub, rinse, and repeat? That one sin, that no matter how hard I try seems stuck in my life?

I don’t know about you, but I’m glad that for those difficult to clean parts of my life, God doesn’t have to keep blasting at me over and over to get me clean. You see, Jesus’s blood cleansed me once for all (Hebrews 7:27). That does not mean I don’t have to do my part to work on getting rid of the cause of the stain. I am responsible for obeying in order to access the cleansing (1 Peter 1:22), but God does the hard part. And He does it through the cleansing power of Jesus’s blood on the cross (Romans 5:9).

“Would you be free from the burden of sin?

There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;

Would you o’er evil a victory win?

There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.

There is pow’r, pow’r, wonder-working pow’r
In the blood of the Lamb;
There is pow’r, pow’r, wonder-working pow’r
In the precious blood of the Lamb.”

“And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” Rev. 7:14
