A Powerful Post : The Brevity of Life

One of the members where I preach posted something on his Facebook page that I found very thought-provoking. The original source of this is anonymous, but the words still need to be considered:

I WAS DYING

First, I was dying to finish high school and start college.

And then I was dying to finish college and start working.

And then I was dying to marry and have children.

And then I was dying for my children to grow old enough for school so I could return to work

And then I was dying to retire.

And now, I am dying…and suddenly I realize I forgot to live.

As I read those sobering words, some passages of scripture came to mind. The ones that came to mind had less to do with “remembering to live” as many in the world would define living. They had to do with something even more soul-searching than that.

I will end this short post with just a couple of those scriptures for you to consider:

The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away…

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.

          (Psalm 90:10, 12 ESV)

The end of the matter; all has been heard.  Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.  For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.

 (Eccl. 12:13-14)
