Psalm 46
This psalm is what caused, after much study, Martin Luther to pen the words to the grand hymn, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God.” After studying this psalm, I asked 3 members of my family to write a sermon–along with me–entitled, “What a Mighty God We Serve.” We used Harold Willmington’s The Outline Bible for our 5 major points: I. The Protection from God (verses 1-3), II. The Paradise of God (verses 4-5), III. The Power of God (verses 6-8), IV. The Peace of God (verse 9) and V. The Praise to God (verses 10-11) [page 242].
If you have not spent time with this psalm, do so. It will cause you to appreciate your Father even more.
Because there is so much information in those sermons, I am going to refer you to a couple of versions of the sermons.
The first was preached by Jason Moon (a brother-in-law) at the Memorial Parkway church of Christ (Huntsville, AL) on . He preached the sermon in two parts. Click on this link for Part 1. Click on this link for Part 2.
The other version is mine. Click here for the sermons page of the 9th Avenue church of Christ. Go to May 2007 and click on “What a Mighty God We Serve!”
While this may not be a normal post for our series on the Psalms, but I thought this would be an interesting change.
